About the Role

We Made That is looking for an urban researcher at associate/ senior associate level to join our growing team in our London office. We are seeking a candidate capable of leading multiple projects, managing small project teams and resource allocations as well as developing wider research streams and strategies within the practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in undertaking quantitative and qualitative research through analytical and engaged processes. The role includes devising and leading teams to deliver desk-based research (including literature and policy reviews), conducting primary research and stakeholder engagement, analysing qualitative and quantitative research findings, report writing and strategy development. You should be fluent at operating at a senior level and work collaboratively alongside the practice partners and as part of the senior management team. The ideal candidate will be confident in leading on developing and implementing industry leading, socially engaged research methodologies and will be driven by wanting to help create equitable places through impactful projects.

What You're Gonna Do

The ideal candidate will be an experienced urban researcher, familiar with working as part of a senior management team and comfortable in managing their time across projects, staff development, research development and wider practice initiatives. Project focused: - demonstrate a powerful public conscience in pursing project goals and practice aims - oversee research and strategy development across multiple projects - lead on the analysis of primary and secondary information and present data and findings in an accurate and concise way - produce visual maps, graphs and well-structured reports with a considered, high design quality - prepare bid submissions and research proposals, devise strategies for team structures, outline research outcomes and funding models - independently lead on shaping, securing and progressing our research strategies and ethos - lead on the preparation and undertaking of research, organising and analysis of data - successfully manage projects, identifying issues and implementing solutions in an effective and efficient way - deliver presentations to teams, project collaborators, clients and stakeholders - actively manage project resources, budgets and outcomes - lead practice wide understanding of policy and industry standards and regulations Leadership: - lead complex and interdisciplinary teams to co-ordinate cohesive research outcomes - confidently work with clients, stakeholders and collaborators - lead a culture of innovation across our research techniques and processes - lead on design review processes and seek continuous improvements on our processes and methodologies - be passionate about shaping the outputs of the practice in line with our BCorp status and lead initiatives to maximise our impact - act as a mentor and support staff members in their development, share expertise through resources, formal training and CPD - actively contribute to conversations around the strategic development of the team, the research outputs and the long-term vision of the practice - represent the practice externally at events, talks and public speaking opportunities

About You

You must be an experienced urban researcher with an in-depth working knowledge of the London regeneration landscape. You will have a wide working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research principles and applied methodologies. With strong analytical skills and an informed, contemporary understanding of the challenges faced in cities today, you will have the ability to situate findings within wider political, economical and societal contexts. Essential: - experience in a similar role within a place-making, architecture or an academic organisation - have a proven track record of experience of urban research commissions for public sector clients in the UK - be familiar with London and city regeneration contexts and improving best practice - experience in leading bids and tender submissions for research proposals - excellent verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills - technical knowledge of research strategies and the ability to articulate ideas and objectives clearly - highly experienced in leading teams, setting achievable milestones, and monitoring programmes - have solid project management and analysis skills, with the ability to drive project development forwards with meaningful impact - sensitively and pragmatically navigate working with a wide range of audiences and stakeholders - visual skills with a keen eye for presentation - demonstrate a working knowledge of environmental and social performance impacts and how we can deliver these within projects - have fluency with Adobe CS and GIS (essential) Desired: - have a minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience post Masters-level qualification in an urban studies discipline - have a Degree-level qualification in economics, political science, urban systems, policy studies or similar related subject - have held a leadership role in a similar sized organisation - experience using CMAP or similar project management software
