The Research Program Urban Technology of the Faculty of Technology, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA) is looking for a Senior Researcher/Project Leader Empowering Citizens (0,4 FTE). For our Urban Analytics team.

We invite applicants for a senior researcher position of 0,4 FTE for a period from September 2020 until December 2021 for the European NSR Interreg project Empowering Citizens.

Your challenge
You will be involved in the overall Urban Analytics team of the research programs of Urban Technology and the faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries. The teams perform data studies, focusing on the domains of energy and logistics. The Urban Analytics team is characterized by an experimental mindset, we like to try new unexplored research directions. In the project Empowering Citizens, we develop a digital platform to enable local municipalities to start and accelerate energy transition initiatives. The project has already been running for 18 months and needs a new project leader and senior researcher. The project leader is responsible for the international cooperation within this project and our work package, including the communication with the other partners and the project coordinator, the project management and financial reports, the presentation of our results and the coordination between the work packages. As a researcher, you will further develop the digital platform and publish the research results in scientific and professional publications. Furthermore, you will be engaged in managing subprojects within the AUAS/HvA and in guiding junior researchers and minor and thesis students involved in the subprojects.

Requirements

You have completed a master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field. You have evident knowledge of online platforms and digital design. You are good at managing information streams, structuring and presenting information, for instance through report writing. You have project leadership skills. You are able to guide junior researchers. You are flexible and up for the challenge of working in a new experimental setting. You have experience with international (research) projects. You have good verbal and written English skills. With your passion for research you can inspire your students and team members. You are a creative thinker, innovator, and motivator. Experience and knowledge about energy transition is of added value.

Conditions of employment

We offer a diverse and dynamic position in a challenging and friendly environment. We employ the senior researcher for 0,4 fte. Salary scale 11 (CAO – HBO Collective Agreement for Universities of applied science) applies to this position of researcher/lecturer. The gross salary is maximum €5.026 per month based on full-time employment. The post wilI involve a temporary appointment for the remaining project running time (December 2021).

Urban Technology

What your working environment would be
Urban Technology is a research program of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Applied Science Amsterdam that focuses on the research, design, and realization of smart technical solutions for the city. There are four active research themes: Urban Design, Mobility, Circular City, and Energy. The program has a current staff of 8 professors and about 75 fte researchers. The faculty includes 6,614 students in engineering, logistics, built environment, aviation, forensics, maritime officer and applied mathematics.

To support the research groups, we have built up an urban analytics group, which will perform data analyses, mathematical modelling and apply computer algorithms together with the research groups. The group will also build an expertise and knowledge center, where researchers, students and lecturers can find resources, techniques, and references for the data studies they want to perform.
