Strengthening speculative design education by collecting and exchanging existing knowledge and experiences.

About us

SpeculativeEdu is an educational project based on the need for an upgrade in speculative design - one oriented towards novel educational skills and practices for the 21st century. By collecting and exchanging knowledge and experiences, and developing new methods in this field, SpeculativeEdu will carry out a concept of open/free education resources that will produce three outcomes: The State of Speculative Design Study, a collection of the best practices and case-studies; The Speculative Design Textbook, a textbook for students and practitioners; and The Speculative Design Open Toolkit, an open access online repository. SpeculativeEdu will host an international group of renovated speculative design practitioners from around the globe and leading European academic/research institutions, delivering four events: two international students’ workshops to be held in Croatia and Rome; a conference in Slovenia; and a symposium, accompanied by an exhibition, in Split. The consortium will be led by the University of Split (Croatia), consisting of Edinburgh Napier University (UK), Goldsmiths, the University of London (UK), the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (Portugal), the Human Ecosystems Relazioni (Italy), and the Institute for Transmedia Design (Slovenia). SpeculativeEdu is funded by Erasmus+, the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport, and will last for two years (until 30 September 2020).

🌟 Have you ever pondered what the future of our cities would be like if children took the lead? 🏙️ Last week, we celebrated remarkable achievements from three years of Disco School workshops, a movement that empowers kids to become designers, leaders, and active citizens. Through speculative design, they tackle vital socio-cultural issues with creativity and insight. 🎨💡 Established in 2020 with one primary school in Slovenia, Disco School has now reached 500+ children from 8 schools, spanning 4 cities and 4 states. 📚🌎 A heartfelt salute to our dedicated teachers, talented artists, and visionary design experts who have united to bring this project to life. The journey has just begun, and the future looks bright! 🚀 #DiscoSchool #ChildrenInCharge #BrighterFuture

📢 INTERAKCIJE 2023: HOMO AQUATICUS → Application deadline: 8 September 🚨 Quick reminder of the deadline approaching. Do not miss the chance to be part of this intense and enriching experience. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭? Get ready to delve into a critical reflection on the romanticised, high-modernist, human-centred visions of the future and life under the sea that have become part of our popular culture. The workshop will focus on potential utopian communities of the near future, bringing new social, energetic or more-than-human concepts to life through speculative design and similar approaches. New places of community resilience, but not as places of utopian new beginnings, but rather as places of transition in the present towards new and different societies, communities of hope and communities of the future. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮? The workshop leaders are → Valentin Graillat and Oliver Troff, design researchers from ENS Paris-Saclay (Paris-Saclay University, France).
