Ho do we approach the possibilities of AI in the field of architecture and design? Could curiosity and understanding be better advisors than caution and concern? annette finke, Senior Director at GRAFT Architects, will be presenting at the Masterclass “Freunde im Licht” in Düsseldorf and share our experiences with the new tool. The event is organized by ateljé Lyktan, LED Linear and WE-EF LIGHTING and is addressed to professionals from the lighting industry and lighting design sectors, but also to practitioners, researchers and students from the broader design and architectural fields. Hybrid office operating internationally in the fields of architecture, urban development and design.
About us
GRAFT was established in 1998 in Los Angeles, California, by Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz and Thomas Willemeit, joined by Sven Fuchs and Georg Schmidthals as partners in 2018. Today, the "hybrid office" has its headquarters, GRAFTLAB, in Berlin and has further locations in Shanghai and Seoul. GRAFT is conceived as a studio for architecture, urban planning, design, music and the pursuit of happiness. Since its establishment, it has been commissioned to design and manage a wide range of projects across multiple disciplines and in numerous locations. Although the company’s core enterprises gravitate around the field of architecture and the built environment, GRAFT has always maintained an interest in crossing the boundaries between disciplines and “grafting” the creative potential and methodologies of different realities. This is reflected in its expansion into the fields of exhibition and product design, art installations and academic projects, as well as in their variety of project locations around the world. GRAFT is happy and honored to have been recognized as one of the "100 Most Influential Minds in Berlin Culture" by the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel! The newspaper compiled a list of visionaries, artists, and doers contributing significantly to the city's cultural DNA. Our anniversary exhibition, held at Aedes Architecture Forum last year, and our continuous engagement in the debate about the future of architecture has landed us on the list, according to the editorial board of culture. We are always passionate about staying involved either by giving interviews and lectures, through the projects we can complete in Berlin and worldwide, or by sharing our thoughts on our blog (https://lnkd.in/e_gwB2it). Thank you Tagesspiegel! Lars Krückeberg will be holding the keynote lecture "The Role of AI in Architecture" at the 23rd Partner Day of the Association of German Architects (Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten BDA Berlin) taking place at the Bundesstiftung Bauakademie in Berlin today. https://lnkd.in/er8sFGK7 This year´s conference is focused on the relationship between artificial intelligence and architecture, where our team at GRAFT has already been able to gather knowledge and experience, forming appropriate workflows and skill-sets. The rapid changes coming about and already in progress all over the field of architecture, are a great source of inspiration for our studio´s innovative work. We are happy to be awarded the Callwey Best Workspaces 2024 prize for our project TRILUX Light Campus! Taking inspiration from the client’s creations, GRAFT’s design for the location of German lighting company TRILUX in Cologne incorporated light, reflection and refraction. The building presents a changing pattern of reflections from different viewpoints and is inspired by the aesthetics of spotlight reflectors, which optimize the optical distribution of the light source. Each facade module is rotated at the same angle about its central axis, which creates an overall impression of a monolithic building that produces different light and depth effects depending on the perspective it is viewed from. The ceiling of the entrance area features a sculptural light surface especially designed by GRAFT and Trilux, at once an architectural detail and a lighting element. As a sculptural luminaire it unfolds from the ceiling, cascading gently in the space above the auditorium. The building’s upper floors house the company’s office space and product exhibition areas, thus forming an essential part of the company’s competence center, which already partially existed on the site. We are proud to be featured in the accompanying book “Best Workspaces 2024” published by Callwey. The book is available now: https://lnkd.in/eB83TwiR Find out more about the project on our website: https://lnkd.in/ejSM9_tV Wolfram Putz Thomas Willemeit Lars Krueckeberg Sven Fuchs Georg Schmidthals TRILUX Callwey Verlag

Our project LOVT Vision is part of the exhibition "So it is possible!" about the Munich “Werksviertel” from 12 – 28 March 2024. How did it come about that on one of Germany's most valuable industrial wastelands, small-scale studios can now coexist alongside large-scale offices, subculture alongside high culture, low-tech alongside high-tech, sheep alongside hotels without displacement? The secret of the “Werksviertel” lies in private developers who recognize the existing buildings and culture as a resource and value them at least as much as the land. Instead of demolition and short-term speculative profits, the owners and steidle architekten (Masterplan) have focused on preservation, redensification, and a mix of uses in their step-by-step planning. The exhibition on the occasion of the German Urban Development Award shows the history and future of the “Werksviertel”. The big opening is on March 11, 6 pm at Werk12 in Munich. With contributions by C.F. In collaboration with JUNG, we created a special GRAFT design for the JUNG UNIQUE collection. The inspiration for these distinctive switches came from Berlin, the city where we have lived and worked since 2001, and its vibrant urban art scene. GRAFT feels a great affinity with urban street art and its bold and subversive energy. Urban spaces and the rough edges of a city that are not yet occupied wait for people to appropriate them and fill them with life. Whether it's graffiti or street art, messages, imprints, or traces, they are all signs of identification and colorful urban life. The designs for JUNG UNIQUE reflect this attitude and play on the ambiguity of aesthetic perception and what is perceived as beautiful. Used and new, ugly and beautiful, ironic and serious – what can you see here? Check out our award-winning mobility projects! Both projects we entered at the international Architecture MasterPrize were awarded with an Honorable Mention. On behalf of E.ON Drive, GRAFT Architects and Graft Brandlab developed a prototype for an ultra-fast charging station. This was further developed into an innovative, extendable system of modules capable of adapting to future requirements of e-mobility. The German eVTOL design company Volocopter is a pioneer of Urban Air Mobility and develops fully electric vertical take-off aircraft as a mobility solution for use in urban areas. As a hub for the Volocopter aircraft, the VoloPort vertiport was devised by GRAFT in collaboration with Volocopter, Arup and Bayards Aluminium Constructions Group. We are happy to announce our new partnership with architect Marco Stelzel of S. AI Gesellschaft von Architekten + Ingenieuren in Leipzig. The collaboration aims at innovative and progressive architectural solutions and will find its home in Leipzig's hip district along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. In the legendary dance club Café Waldi, a creative space and platform for original designs will emerge. There, S. AI-founder Marco Stelzel and GRAFT will collaborate on visionary projects. Choosing Leipzig as a collaboration location emphasizes the commitment of both architectural offices to promote architecture, culture, and design in Saxony. GRAFT and S. AI can draw on their years of experience and expertise, inspiring each other in this mutual venture. We look forward to a successful creative synergy and the realization of numerous exciting projects! Photo © GRAFT #GRAFT #Collab #Leipzig #architecture #newprojects #synergy
