About us
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, membership association founded in 1912 to advance the quality of architectural education. The school membership in ACSA has grown from 10 charter members to over 250 schools in several membership categories. These include full membership for all accredited programs in the United States and government-sanctioned schools in Canada, candidate membership for schools seeking accreditation, and affiliate membership for schools for two-year and international programs. Through these schools, over 5,000 architecture faculty are represented. In addition, over 500 supporting members composed of architecture firms, product associations and individuals add to the breadth of interest and support of ACSA goals. ACSA, unique in its representative role for schools of architecture, provides a forum for ideas on the leading edge of architectural thought. Issues that will affect the architectural profession in the future are being examined today in ACSA members schools. The association maintains a variety of activities that influence, communicate, and record important issues. Such endeavors include scholarly meetings, workshops, publications, awards and competition programs, support for architectural research, policy development, and liaison with allied organizations.

As Earth Week 2024 continues, we highlight the inspiring projects honored in the 2023 COTE Top Ten for Students Competition, announced by Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment last August. Today, we are celebrating The Craft, The Tradition, The Celebration of Culture, designed by Angela Kraus and Olivia Wideman from Clemson University under the guidance of faculty mentors Ulrike Heine, David Franco, and George Schafer. This project is a beacon of cultural celebration, aiming to bridge the disconnect between culture, place, and estranged descendants. Through an immersive, hands-on learning center, Angela and Olivia strive to celebrate trades and traditions by bringing them to life through practice. Angela Kraus reflects on the project’s main goals, emphasizing the importance of contributing to a thriving community that promotes connection, self-sufficiency, and resilience. “One of our main goals was to contribute to the idea of a thriving community,” Angela shared, “that promotes connection, self-sufficiency, and resilience.” Explore the inspiring stories behind all the winning projects from the 2023 COTE Top Ten for Students Competition: https://lnkd.in/gKbGakpu https://lnkd.in/gcS5jvg6 Join us in celebrating the vision and dedication of Angela Kraus, Olivia Wideman, and their collaborators as we continue to honor and preserve cultural heritage for generations to come. Enormous appreciation to the stellar jurors of the 2023 COTE Top Ten for Students: Julie Ju-Youn Kim, AIA of Georgia Institute of Technology, Rahman Azari of Penn State University, Nithyashree Balachandar Iya of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Jill Kurtz, AIA of Page, and Sarah Mathews, AIA of Jacobs. #EarthWeek #COTETopTen #StudentInnovation #Sustainability #CulturalCelebration #CommunityResilience #NextGen

Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design faculty members were once again honored by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture in its 2024 Architectural Education Awards program. John Folan, department head and professor of architecture; Candice Adams, teaching assistant professor of architecture; and Emily Baker, assistant professor of architecture, all were part of teams that received 2024 Collaborative Practice Awards. Folan and Adams received the award for "Home for ALICE." Baker was part of an international team that received the award for "Crafting a Collaborative Curriculum: The Design Build Initiative." "The recognitions of collaborative practice pedagogy are important to the Department of Architecture because they signal the relevance of sensibilities that are being fostered by faculty across the curriculum," Folan said. "Preparing students in a professional degree program carries the responsibility of providing an environment that affords students the opportunity to experience what will be encountered post-graduation. The practice of architecture is entirely a collaborative endeavor; these recognitions demonstrate that our students emerge from the program with that understanding." In recent years, faculty members in the Fay Jones School have won additional ACSA recognition in the areas of the Distinguished Professor Award, Housing Design Education, Collaborative Practice, Faculty Design, Design Build, Practice and Leadership, and Timber Education — bringing the total honors to 21 since 2014.
