The MobiliseYourCity Partnership, launched at COP21 in Paris, is a global initiative dedicated to advancing sustainable urban mobility and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in cities. Nearly 100 partners, including 83 cities and 15 countries, collaborate with the support of the EU, French and German ministries, and AFD. The internship, hosted in Brussels through GIZ, offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to contribute to capacity-building, research, and communication activities in an international, intercultural environment. The intern will directly support global cooperation projects in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, while gaining hands-on experience in development cooperation, mobility planning, and climate action.
Assist in the design, implementation, and moderation of capacity-building activities, including training workshops, online courses, and peer-to-peer learning formats for policymakers and practitioners.
Support the conceptualisation and organisation of events, such as methodological guideline launches and communities of practice meetings.
Conduct research, desk studies, and data collection on sustainable urban mobility policies and projects worldwide.
Draft, edit, and prepare technical documents, articles, presentations, newsletters, and other communication materials.
Manage and update content for the website, intranet, and social media channels.
Contribute to knowledge management by developing fact sheets, SUMP and NUMP summaries, and lessons learned documentation.
Support the facilitation of working groups and network activities with international knowledge and implementation partners.
Current enrollment in, or recent graduation (within 6 months) from, a university program in transport, economics, engineering, political science, communication, urban or social sciences, or related fields.
Strong interest in sustainable mobility, urban planning, and development cooperation, with knowledge of the challenges in the Global South.
First relevant professional or internship experience in international cooperation, climate change, or transport/urban mobility (preferred).
Must hold a valid Belgian work permit (GIZ does not provide or apply for permits).
Ability to work independently, reliably, and proactively within a team-oriented environment.
Commitment to intercultural cooperation and international development values.
SKILLS:
Languages: Business fluent in English and German; knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a strong asset.
Technical expertise: Knowledge of sustainable mobility and climate change policy.
Digital competence: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); familiarity with design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop) and openness to AI tools.
Communication: Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills with a strong sense of language.
Personal competencies: Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, autonomy, proactivity, creativity, and adaptability in a multicultural work environment.
Networking: Capacity to engage with stakeholders, facilitate group exchanges, and contribute to global partnerships.
Location: Brussels, Belgium (GIZ office).
Duration: 15 November 2025 – 14 May 2026 (6 months).
Type of employment: Full-time internship (under Belgian law).
Compensation: €1,350 gross monthly stipend.
Eligibility: Candidates must be currently enrolled as students or have graduated within 6 months before the internship start date.
Legal: A valid Belgian work permit is required; GIZ does not cover costs or apply for permits.
