The Society for Children and Youth of BC (SCY) is a unique, provincial not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to improve the well-being of children and youth in BC through the advancement of their civic, political, economic, social, cultural and legal rights. Our Child and Youth Friendly Communities program aims to support youth in becoming active participants in the development of their communities, and to ensure local governance decision making and city planning includes youth input.

About the Role

The Society for Children and Youth of BC seeks a passionate, dedicated individual who is a strategic thinker, with strong administrative and team management skills, to guide our Child and
Youth Friendly Communities program into the years ahead.

What You're Gonna Do

Working closely with the existing team, the Child and Youth Friendly Communities Program Manager will hold the following responsibilities:

Strategy and Fund Development (25%)
• Lead the development and execution of a new Strategic Plan for the program (current plan expiring end of 2025), in collaboration with broader strategic planning for the Society

• Lead fund development for the program, working together with the broader SCY staff team on grant writing, fundraising events, targeted sponsorships and government proposals

• Develop and maintain new and existing stakeholder relationships for the program, including community and youth partners as well as government, funder, and broader network relationships

• Attend coalitions, networks, and events as a representative of the Program and the Society, as directed and as time allows

• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the Society’s current programming as well as current events and trends in the sphere of child-friendly planning and children’s rights

Human Resources (25%)
• Provide supervision and support to program staff, including running weekly team meetings, providing regular check-ins to a small team, and overseeing the creation and execution of workplans

• Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and balanced workplace culture

• Assist with oversight for project budgets, working with the team to ensure work is being completed on time and budget

Direct Program Support (25%)
• Manage SCY’s responsibilities for and participation in part-time initiatives without dedicated staff

• Lead and/or assist with direct programming, including workshops and events, consulting, and timebound projects, as needed and as time allows

Administrative Duties (15%)
• Maintain organized files and documentation for the Program in the Society’s online SharePoint

• Track operational dates for the program such as reporting deadlines, funding and professional development opportunities, key programming dates etc.

• Work with the Communications Coordinator and other SCY staff to assist with branding and marketing materials/strategy for the program

• Coordinate and assist with the training and onboarding of new program staff

• Work independently and with other staff, managing SCY email accounts and responding to requests in appropriate time and manner

Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation (10%)
• Submit project reports for funders and partners, and regular program reports to the Executive Director

• Evaluate existing programming for opportunities to increase impact and equity, broaden accessibility, and improve cost efficiency

We expect you will have:
• Experience in a non-profit context managing a team of staff and/or volunteers

• Prior experience with fund development and a demonstrated ability to secure program funding

• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, with an ability to build rapport with diverse populations of all age groups

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Prior experience in budgeting and budget oversight, particularly in a non-profit context

• A demonstrated commitment to children's rights and the principle of centering children and youth in decision-making that affects them

• Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines, and support other staff members in these areas

• Familiarity with Microsoft programs, SharePoint and Zoom

• Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory, anti-racist and decolonizing practices

• Familiarity with children’s rights, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the field of child-friendly planning

• Reliable home internet connection and access to your own cell phone are required

Additional skills that will be considered assets:

• Experience working with children and youth
• Experience working with the public school system in British Columbia

• Experience working in small non-profit settings

• A passion for fostering active communities, with an interest in the intersections of active travel,
outdoor play, and children’s well-being.

• Experience in areas such as school active travel promotion, public space activation, or community engagement with youth.

What We Offer

Position Type:
Full time at 35hrs/week. Permanent position, subject to funding

Location: A flexible combination of remote and in-person work. Must be able to regularly attend inperson events throughout Metro Vancouver and work at SCY’s office in Vancouver. Occasional longer distance travel is anticipated. Work hours are flexible, to be determined between the candidate and the
management team.

Compensation: $67,340 annual salary plus statutory benefits, paid sick days, 3 weeks’ paid vacation yearly, organization-supported professional development opportunities, and extended health benefits after 3 months
