About the Role

The Executive Director will be the first paid staff position at Women in Urbanism Canada (WIUC), working under the guidance and supervision of the Board of Directors. The focus will be to advance existing organization activities (previously led by the Board of Directors), build organizational capacity related to strategies and policies, and establish sustainable funding sources.

What You're Gonna Do

Strategic Planning & Policies

  • Develop and implement the strategic plan
  • Develop and implement a JEDIIA strategy
  • Develop and update organization policies and procedures (e.g., governance, human resources, finances, communications, etc.)
  • Produce annual impact reports

Governance & Human Resources

  • Engage with and report to the Board of Directors
  • Expand and maintain the membership program
  • Recruit, onboard, and manage staff and volunteers
  • Develop benefits package and explore GBA+ informed employment supports
  • Recruit, select, and provide direction to external consultants (e.g., EDI consultant, Web/Graphic Designer, Capacity Building consultant, Translator, Bookkeeper, etc.)

Finances

  • Develop and implement a fund development strategy
  • Write funding proposals and grant applications
  • Manage organization finances using accounting software
  • Develop and uphold contracts (e.g., staff, consultants, etc.)
  • Oversee the Annual Financial Audit and other required financial reporting/filings
  • Fulfill all grant reporting requirements

Communications

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy
  • Manage the organization's website and associated plug-ins
  • Manage email, social media, partnerships, outreach, etc.

About You

  • University and/or college degrees in a relevant area of study (e.g., gender studies, urban planning, design) or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in a comparable leadership or capacity building role in the non-profit sector or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of intersectional feminism and urban design principles
  • Governance skills related to strategic planning, board & membership coordination, and policy writing
  • Fund development skills related to grant writing, fundraising, and revenue generation
  • Communication skills related to partnership building, public outreach, writing, website management, social media, etc.

Salary

$35/hr CAD
