We are offering the following position: Head of the Resilient Development Program

The position is attractive for professionals with a strong resilience and urban background, including
several years of experience who wish to take up responsibility for a team and a theme, also ensuring
management and implementation of projects.

Strategic and operational management of the Resilient Development team at the ICLEI World
Secretariat, as head of the team.
 Act as Global Coordinator for ICLEI on the Resilient Development pathway, including ICLEI
inter-office cooperation and coordination.
 Further develop this thematic area, through expanding and ensuring a coherent set of
guidance and tools is offered to local and regional governments, in cooperation and
consultation with other ICLEI pathways, themes and offices - with the aim to integrate
resilience into urban sustainable development policies, processes and actions.
 Act as main contact point for partners in the resilience sphere.
 Responsible for implementation of new projects, including budgetary control, donor contact,
and excellent delivery of planned outcomes.
 Lead in designing new project concepts and lead fundraising efforts for the Resilient
Development pathway for the World Secretariat, also in cooperation with other ICLEI offices
and the Director of Business Development.
 Advocate for and position urban resilient development in the international discussion on
sustainable urban development, especially in the climate change and biodiversity debates,
working closely with the respective Global Coordinators and Head of Advocacy.
 Guide and take part in the preparation of Resilience Congresses – at regional and/or global
level.

Main requirements:
 Masters’ degree or equivalent qualification in Urban Planning & Management, Disaster Risk Management, Climate Change Adaptation and/or Local Development, or similar.
 Minimum of eight years of working experience related to the above themes.
 Experience and knowledge of current policies, urban planning and management, state-of-theart in the areas of urban areas and local/regional government and resilience, disaster risk reduction, urban risks and vulnerabilities. An asset to also have experience in environmental sustainability, resilient building construction, resilient urban food systems, GIS and spatial data, climate change impacts and adaptation, is an asset;
 Experience in project acquisition and development, preparation of funding proposals, project coordination (including project budget responsibility).
 Business travels

 is proficient in oral and written English; further languages are an asset
 shows creativity and excellence in communicating ICLEI’s message to public policy makers planners, business partners, investors and the broader public
 is proficient in office and presentation software and experience in, or open to learn using, web content management

 The position will be available as of 1 September 2020.
 The Head of the Resilient Development Program reports to the Director of the carbon Climate Center.
 Two year contract (with a possibility to extend), with a three month probation period.
 The employment contract will be subject to German law.
 Salary: 51187 Euro annually (full time) before tax and social insurance fees, with the final salary to be determined based on the chosen applicant’s skills, experience and position.
 Working hours: 40 per week (full time).
 Paid leave: 30 days per year (full time).
 Working language: English.
 Due to legal requirements, applicants must be eligible to obtain the appropriate work permit for Germany prior to the start of the position.
