The Institute for Urban Excellence (iUE) specialises in research, citizen engagement, advocacy, research communication and professional training in urban planning. Positioned as a knowledge broker and think tank, it facilitates the transnational dissemination and adoption of transdisciplinary knowledge and innovation across sectors, levels of governance and communities.

The ISOCARP Institute is the research spin-off of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), based in The Hague, the Netherlands. With over five decades of accumulated knowledge and expertise in urban and regional planning, ISOCARP as a non-profit organisation with individual and institutional members in 85 countries worldwide, initiated the Institute as a Center for Urban Excellence – a think-tank empowering individuals, organisations, and institutions to achieve better human settlements. The Institute’s core function is to conduct research and promote knowledge transfer, offer advice and short-term consultancy services, as well as design, and deliver capacity development and continuing education programmes. The institute is involved in several EU research projects, offers technical assistance globally, as well as engaged in capacity development projects with other international partners.

We are seeking an intern (32 hours/week) for 6 months (with a possibility of extension) interested in urban topics. The intern will support and assist us in the management and delivery of our EU and international projects. To apply for this position, you must have at least bachelor’s degree or are enrolling in a master’s course and have work and residence permit in the Netherlands.

Projects:

• Supporting research activities (e.g., data gathering & analysis, report writing, etc.) for on-going EU projects.
• Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis is a plus.
• Supporting communication with partners, act as a liaison between the organisation, the public and the media through different (digital) channels.

Capacity building:

• Supporting the delivery of capacity building activities, in terms of coordination and content creation, including training modules, animation of online and in-person trainings and workshops.
• Supporting stakeholder (e.g., local governments, civil associations, NGOs, etc.) engagement activities.

Project proposals:

• Assisting in the acquisition of new projects (i.e., Horizon Europe, etc.) including desk research and writing.

In addition, you:

• Can take initiative, bring a hands-on mentality, and enjoy working in a young, dynamic, and international environment.
• Are a cooperative team player but also can work independently if necessary.

• You hold at least a bachelor’s degree or are enrolling in a master’s program in Social Sciences or related discipline with a strong interest in urban issues.
• Good knowledge on urban issues such as environmental justice, just transition, Green New Deal, smart cities, etc. is a plus.
• You have skills in documentation and data management.
• Experience with MS Office and/or Adobe Photoshop or InDesign.
• You have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written. Other European languages are an asset.
• Available from September 2022 or earlier for a period of 6 months, at least 4 days per week.
• You have a legitimate work and residence permit in the Netherlands.
