Energy Cities is the learning community for future-proof cities.

We are a network of over 1,000 towns & cities in 30 countries.

Contribute to the development and the implementation of Energy Cities’ strategy on Future-proof local governance, setting up long-term local partnerships & trying out new participatory processes to transform local ecosystems;

Support Energy Cities’ implementation team of the NetZeroCities project, which supports the EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, on the tasks related to:

• National and regional collaboration of cities to boost replication and scale-up of good practices, policy, levers and methodologies from Mission Cities
• Develop innovation initiatives to boost collaborative dialogues to lever multilevel governance
• Other tasks where Energy Cities has collaborations (e.g. climate city contract process, citizen engagement, local governance, systemic change).

In practice, you will organise and facilitate workshops, develop publications to share knowledge and projects outcome, engage with several partners, define processes to achieve goals, report activities and achievements to the European Commission.

• Actively participate on Energy Cities’ business development activities, mainly by supporting other project managers during the preparation of project proposals under EU funding programmes (LIFE, Horizon Europe, INTERREG, among others)
• Represent Energy Cities at EU or national events.
• Participate in the development of the association: based on interests, you can work on different topics to make Energy Cities a better place to work (e.g. development of organisational tools and process, greening and teleworking policies, etc.).

The selected candidate will be part of the team of Energy Cities working on NetZeroCities (around 5 persons) as well as the team working in our Future-proof local governance Hub. She or he will work with several partners from the NetZeroCities consortium.

• Compulsory Master level studies e.g. in engineering, economy, sustainable energy & climate, sustainable urban development & planning or similar
• 1-2 years of relevant experience
  Background in urban sustainability and experience with EU programmes will be positively evaluated
• Interest in system change approaches (governance issues, transition management, stakeholders and citizen engagement, urban and energy planning, policies and financial instruments, etc.).
• Proficient user level (C level) in English is required and independent user (B level) of other EU languages is an advantage, apart from your mother tongue
• Excellent organisational skills and capacity to work autonomously
• Ability to work in an international and intercultural team and environment
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks.

• The contract will be made under French or Belgian law
• Open-ended, full-time contract
• Location: Besançon (France) or Brussels (Belgium) – Please note that this job is an on-site position. We enjoy a part-time teleworking policy but expect our collaborators to regularly come to the office to ensure effective teamwork and cohesion.
• Availability to travel, in Europe in particular (mostly missions of 2-3 days)
• Salary will be calculated according to Energy Cities’ salary grid
• Holidays per year: 20 days plus 26.5 extra-legal days in Belgium, 26 days in France for a full-time equivalent
• Working time: 38 hours working week in Belgium, “forfait jour” at 205 days in France or 35h/week
• Other social advantages (depending on the country): Attractive health and disability insurance, restaurant vouchers, cyclist or public transport allowance, phone/Internet lump sum, and teleworking allowance.
