Technische Universität Braunschweig is seeking to appoint a Junior Research Group Leader (d/f/m) Sustainable Cites: Urban Flows and Production (up to TV-L E14; fulltime; as soon as possible).

The Technische Universität Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) is seeking to appoint a personality with pronounced interdisciplinary competence to lead a Junior Research Group (JRG) on sustainable cities with a successfully proven scientific background of either production engineering, architecture/urban planning, or related subjects. The JRG will be jointly hosted by the Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology and the Institute of Sustainable Urbanism. The future JRG leader will have strong international networks and will contribute actively through research to strengthening the activities and external visibility of the core research area Future City and of TU Braunschweig.

The JRG aims at advancing interdisciplinary methods of the development, analysis, evaluation and planning of urban flows in mirror of urban production. In the group, techniques for production and sustainability assessment, urban design and planning, and mobility in future cities and agglomerations will be at the focus, based on leading-edge research in the fields of production engineering and architecture/urban planning.

The JRG leader has a data driven and model-oriented mindset, a scientific background and interest in urban production, in the field of sustainable urban planning and/or production engineering. To build up the JRG two full-time phd positions will be supported pursuing the interdisciplinary integration and modeling of the material and immaterial flows in the urban system of energy, materials and information to identify synergies of urban processes. The field of application and objective is the development of methods and tools to integrate data on innovative systems and technologies for sustainable urban development and production.

The position (up to TV-L E14; fulltime) is initially appointed for an up to 4-year period. The completion of the doctorate may not be completed more than 6 years ago. The post holder should also fulfill the following criteria:

• Outstanding scientific qualification and research achievements for the position to be filled
• Ability to obtain and to lead cooperative interdisciplinary research projects and acquire third-party funding
• International research experience incl. international research stays
• Participation in international networks and strong research communication skills
• Willingness to actively participate in faculty and core research area affairs and committees
• Ability to work in and lead a team and social competence
• Commitment to the strategic development of the research group and core research area
