About the Role

The department of urban and regional planning forms part of the faculty of Engineering and the built environment at the University of Johannesburg, Doornfontein Campus. The Department is part of the cluster of School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment. Moreover, it is one of the 11 planning institutions in South Africa offering programmes in Urban and Regional planning. The department is a member of the Association of African Planning Schools (AAPS) consisting of planning institutions in the African continent. It is accredited by South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN). All the staff in the department are highly qualified.

Position Reports to the Head of Department and liase with other Departmental stakeholders

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and assessment of students at undergraduate levels in the following disciplines (but not limited) will strongly be recommended for the possible candidate:
  • Architectural Design, Drawing Skills and Techniques, Computer Applications and Software Knowledge, Strategic Planning, Urban Design, Layout Planning and Master Planning.

Minimum Requirements...

  • Masters in Urban and Regional Planning, or Architecture and Planning or Planning Design or Equivalent.
  • Registered with relevant Professional Bodies, SACPLAN or SACAP as a professional Planner, Architect planner.
  • Minimum of 3 Years of Experience.
  • Good practical industry experience accompanied with a Portfolio of work.
  • Record of Research and publications.

Recommendations:

  • Recent lecturing experience at Diploma or Degree level would be highly beneficial
  • Highly technical with proven practical experience
  • Proven research capabilities and administration
  • Ability to attract research funds
  • Student supervisory experience

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Technology savvy and ability to work with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, ACHICED, Revit and Autodesk software packages.
  • With sharp and robust high level of communication skills
  • Sound Knowledge in Planning legislations /policies
  • Self-motivated, Leadership Skills
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics and punctuality
  • Good interpersonal relations and effective organizational skills
