The Global Alliance is a multi-stakeholder initiative made up of a broad membership that also includes actors not traditionally considered humanitarian responders: development actors, urban professionals such as planners, architects and engineers, and local authority networks.

The Alliance is comprised of three main bodies: The Steering Group; Secretariat; and Working Groups, with over 80 member organizations from across the following constituencies: United Nations / International Non-Governmental Organizations / Red Cross & Red Crescent; Academia / Research & Knowledge Management; Local Authorities; and Network of Urban and Built Environment Professionals.

The ambition of the Global Alliance for Urban Crises is to embrace constituencies not normally represented in the humanitarian-development spectrum and to create a platform for stakeholders who do not systematically work together.

UN-Habitat is co-chairing the Global Secretariat of the Global Alliance for Urban Crises, and the work shall be performed from the UN-Habitat New York Office.

Under the direct supervision of the Alliance Secretariat Coordinator, the selected candidate will provide substantive support to the Secretariat and undertake the following tasks:

• Prepare presentations and required material for events and sessions
• Help organize initiatives and plan events
• Provide assistance on administrative tasks, participate in meetings with members and partners, and produce meeting readouts and reports
• Draft newsletters or other communications to members and partners.
• Create content and help manage social media accounts.
• Support in other required tasks from the Alliance Secretariat
• To help shape the content and format of the new Alliance Built Environment Work Space and produce visual and written material to be used for internal and external communications purposes

• University Student (or equivalent) currently enrolled in architecture, urban design, urban planning, urban studies, international affairs, or media and communications programs.
• Fluency in verbal and written English.
• Excellent visual/graphic communications skills.
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to propose new ideas
• Interest in and knowledge of global challenges and urban crises
• Able to meet deadlines for reporting and all project work.

The unpaid internship will be performed from the UN-Habitat New York Office.
The intern shall work three months.
