About the Programme

New opportunity for cities to accelerate cycling infrastructure

The next round of the Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure (BICI) is open for applications!

In partnership with the Global Designing Cities Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies, BICI supports cities to design and deliver high-quality cycling infrastructure that improves safety, public health, and quality of life.

Building on the success of the inaugural program β€” which helped cities deliver more than 200 miles of cycling infrastructure and trained over 850 practitioners worldwide β€” the next phase of BICI will support up to 25 cities globally through capacity building, technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities. After the initial round, 10 cities will then advance to the second phase, where they will each receive $400,000 in funding and hands-on support from the Global Designing Cities Initiative to bring their vision to life.

We encourage all interested cities to apply!

Who's Coming

Cities/municipal governments

BICI is designed for cities with more than 100,000 residents who can
demonstrate a clear commitment, political will, and capacity to implement
transformative cycling infrastructure that improves road safety and the
quality of life for local communities.

About Us

The Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI) inspires leaders, informs practitioners, and invites communities to reimagine what’s possible and design streets that put people first. We are a team of designers, planners, and urban strategists committed to cities that are safe, healthy, accessible, and equitable for everyone. The strategies in our Global Street Design Guide are the foundation of our work, and they have been adopted and applied in more than 100 cities across the globe, helping to update outdated, car-focused street design policies, build local capacity to deliver transformative projects, as well as to evaluate and increase the scale of their impact.
