From 22 to 25 September, Placemaking Week Europe will bring more than 700 urbanists, placemakers and community leaders to Wrocław for four days of learning, exchange and hands-on exploration.
Under the banner “Creating Better Cities Together,” the 2026 festival will examine how public spaces can help cities build stronger communities, encourage experimentation and respond to social and environmental challenges.
This year’s programme is organised around four central themes:
- Building Belonging: Using public spaces to strengthen inclusion, connection and community
- It Takes a Village to Shape a City: Making meaningful co-creation part of everyday urban practice
- Sandbox City: The Courage to Experiment: Creating space for cities to test, learn and adapt
- Rooted in Resilience: Supporting neighbourhoods and communities in preparing for and recovering from crises
The programme combines keynote talks, interactive workshops, discussions, city tours, outdoor activities, performances and practical experiments. Activities will take place across some of Wrocław’s most distinctive urban and cultural spaces, from reimagined industrial buildings to the modernist WuWa neighbourhood and the Wrocław Congress Center.

Placemaking Europe is offering festival participants a fixed-price €70 one-way European Sleeper ticket from Amsterdam Centraal to Dresden on 21 September. Reservations are available until 7 September through this form. Travellers will need to arrange the onward connection from Dresden to Wrocław separately.
