This event is the official launch of the book: ‘Rivers, Cities and People- Social Challenges of Urban Waterfront Development in Asia’, edited by IHS Specialist Maartje van Eerd and alumna Banashree Banerjee. The book was officially published earlier this year and looks at recent initiatives for river restoration and riverfront development intended to contribute to making Asian cities resilient, inclusive and less polluted.
The book examines social exclusion, housing rights, and livelihoods, using case studies from cities like Lahore, Dhaka, and Chennai. It explores the complex social dimensions involved in transforming urban waterfronts.
