Congratulations to the Osborne Association, L+M Development Partners LLC, and Services for the UnderServed on the groundbreaking of Marcus Garvey Extension Phase II! We are thrilled to be involved in this important project.
L+M, Osborne Association, and Services for the UnderServed joined policymakers, partners, and community stakeholders to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the second and final phase of the Marcus Garvey Extension project in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The groundbreaking was attended by RuthAnne Visnauskas, New York State Homes & Community Renewal Commissioner; Emily Lehman, Associate Commissioner of NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development; and Councilmember Darlene Mealy. Phase 2 of the project includes 287 affordable housing units in three buildings: Buildings C/E, which were designed by Curtis + Ginsburg, and Building G, which was designed by SLCE Architects. Buildings C/E will include 178 units, 88 of which will be supportive housing for individuals reentering the community from incarceration, with on-site supportive services provided by Osborne Association. Additionally, Building G will include 109 units, 55 of which will be for formerly homeless individuals and families, with on-site supportive services by Services for the UnderServed. All three buildings will be highly sustainable all-electric buildings with an innovative geothermal system for heating and cooling. The buildings will also have amenities including landscaped recreational courtyards, a bike storage room and a resident lounge. Phase 2 will also include approximately 9,500 square feet of ground floor community facility space. Upon completion of Phase 2, the Marcus Garvey Extension project will have brought 635 fully affordable housing units to the Brownsville community.
