We are very proud of our proposal we made together with Henning Larsen and Varmings Tegnestue for the transformation of the future Danish Parliament. Our proposal provides a vivid glimpse into the heart of the people's government, seamlessly integrating historic buildings with new additions to create a well-functioning workplace and an inspiring visitor experience. With all the basic elements already in place, our holistic approach is strongly based on the existing qualities and cultural heritage. This enables a transformation that preserves and develops the site's specific character and core historical narrative. From the plaza through the new entrance to the Constitutional Chamber; from the Lobby to the People's Roof Terrace; past the Committee Rooms and through the former Art Chamber Building, our proposal aims to offer everyone a cohesive experience of the engine room of democracy. We want to give a big congratulations to our friends from team Cobe who made the winning proposal. And thank you Bygningsstyrelsen for the great competition programme!

We are thrilled to be part of this exciting project!   In collaboration with Cobe, Dorte Mandrup, Tegnestuen Vandkunsten, and Sweco, JAJA is set to design a mixed-use urban waterfront, which features up to 100,000 sqm of housing and commercial spaces. Developed by AP Pension, the aim is to incorporate up to 1,000 housing units, varying from large to small, with more than 25% dedicated to social housing. Woven together with bridges, canals, and green spaces, and located near the soon-to-open metro station, this project is set to become a vibrant new addition to the Copenhagen South Harbor, offering an urban environment with accessible housing for everyone.   The project has a strong focus on CO2 emissions, and we will integrate bio-based materials and wooden structures wherever possible. It also strives to align with the great Reduction Roadmap, which translates the principles of the Paris Agreement and the Planetary Boundary for Climate Change into CO2 reduction targets for new Danish housing projects. Now, we can’t wait to get started!

We are very happy to share that the MiniCO2 House has been selected as a finalist for the 'Low-emission Wooden Building of the Year' award by Træ i Byggeriet! Here's what the jury has to say about the project: “The project addresses two significant challenges in building multi-storey housing in wood: the requirements for fire and sound in multi-storey decks. Through extensive fire and sound testing of ribbed decks with exposed timber beams and bio-based insulation, the project challenges existing norms and makes exposed timber structures in multi-storey residential buildings possible.” The winner will be announced at the Build in Wood conference on May 22-23. For those interested in delving deeper into the project, you can register for the Realdania By & Byg event, where the project's stakeholders, including Kasper Dige Larsen from JAJA, will share insights and expertise: https://lnkd.in/eHi-wv8 The project is made in collaboration with ONV, Artelia DenmarkBlumer Lehmann  , and Egil Rasmussen Koncernen for Realdania By & Byg.

By request, we've made an English version about the discrepancy we see between Copenhageners' travel habits and how the streets are actually formed. Today, the distribution of space does not reflect the political objectives or the transportation habits of Copenhageners. Despite 28% of Copenhageners opting for cycling as their mode of transport, only a mere 8% of the streets cater to cyclists. Cars are given 66% of street space, even though they only represent 26% of travel in and around the city. This misalignment not only undermines the efficiency of our transportation system but also jeopardizes Copenhagen's reputation as a cycling-friendly city. What goes around, comes around – Since 2010, we have seen an increase in private car use of more than 25%. Political decisions must be made to lay the foundation for green mobility while supporting the vision of creating a great city to live in and visit.

Here’s one from the JAJA archives! The 'Torghallen' model in 1:200 from 2014. Torghallen, designed for central Katrineholm (Sweden), combines affordable housing and a market hall. Architecturally conceived as a spatial framework, it is open on the ground floor and inhabited on the three upper floors. The materiality, tectonic components and spatial intricacies introduce human-scale spaces that are light, open and inviting ☀️ Read more about the project via our website: https://lnkd.in/dnmvWbrr

A JAJA transformation of Glyptotekskvarteret! We are consistently engaged in both large and small-scale projects aimed at improving the quality of life within our urban environments. The street is the biggest connected public space in the city, and a key resource to create a livable and resilient urban environment for the future. Presented here is our vision for Glyptotekskvarteret, situated amidst major thoroughfares such as HC Andersens Boulevard, Bernstorffsgade, Kalvebod Brygge, and Tietgensgade. Glyptotekskvarteret needs a bigger development plan, and we propose Niels Brocks Gade, transforming it into a cohesive neighbourhood street, emphasizing its role as a central hub for community qualities and gathering spaces. With the emergence of Postbyen at one end, Niels Brocks Gade gains newfound significance as a vital axis connecting Dantes Plads, Glyptoteket, and Postbyen. The inner-city local committee has recently recommended allocating funds for further citizen dialogue to ensure the project is deeply rooted within the neighbourhood. Stay tuned for further development!

Since 2010, we have seen an increase in private car use of over 25% in Copenhagen. Imagine if our public spaces were designed to be more supportive of the modes of transportation that benefit the broader community.
