This is your chance to share your investment needs with the European Commission! If you are a signatory of the Covenant of Mayors - Europe and you are actively implementing your Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (or equivalent) your input is invaluable. The responses will be aggregated anonymously and reported to the Commission - they will serve to inform of future initiatives and may be used to develop new services. The National Energy and Climate Plans of Portugal, Spain, Lithuania and Czechia are standouts in recognising the socio-technical innovation potential of energy communities, proposing a holistic strategy and sets of measures to support them. They acknowledge community energy can promote social inclusion, tackle energy poverty and develop a more flexible and digital grid. FORESIGHT Climate & Energy, in partnership with ABB and VELUX, invites you to join us in Brussels on 30th May to discuss the pivotal role of circularity in Europe's green transition. Register now, limited seats available: https://lnkd.in/dNtv4ZNb High-level speakers will explore how transitioning to a more circular and energy-efficient economy will help Europe meet its climate goals, reduce pressure on natural resources, and enhance sustainability. The event will be followed by a cocktail reception, giving participants the chance to discuss with policymakers, business leaders, and civil society members. The event will comprise two-panel discussions, both of which will be recorded live for the popular FORESIGHT podcast Watt Matters. The first panel will examine the latest eco-design legislation and its impact on product longevity and energy efficiency, with the second focusing on shifting to circularity in the built environment, including new circular business models in the construction sector. Questions that will be tackled during the event include: Panel 1: How can eco-design boost Europe’s shift to circularity? ▶ EU legislators recently agreed on new eco-design rules that will encourage greater circularity. How will the ESPR contribute to Europe's green objectives? ▶ Is the industry ready to embrace the new circular economy? ▶ Critical raw materials play a significant role in clean energy technologies. How can we encourage circularity in the critical minerals supply chain? ▶ How can EU policymakers encourage a more circular approach on a global scale? Panellists: ◾ Emmanuelle Maire, HoU, DG ENV, Unit B1 Circular Economy, Sustainable Production & Consumption, European CommissionKe Wang Strategy Lead, Energy Minerals & Circularity, World Resources Institute ◾ Erich Labuda, President, Motion Services Division at ABB Panel 2: Shifting to circularity in the built environment ▶ How can regulation be evolved to shift construction towards circularity? Is current EU legislation compatible with our circularity aims? ▶ How can we valorise “waste” for reuse through better material recovery and storage practices? ▶ What are the primary barriers to industry players shifting towards circularity, and how do we overcome them? ▶ What does a robust circular business model look like? Panellists: ◾ Philippe Moseley, Team Leader, DG GROW, Unit H.1 – Construction, Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European CommissionJulie Kjestrup, Head of Policy and Thought Leadership, VELUXAdrian Hiel, Head of Campaigns and Media, Energy Cities ◾ World Green Building Council (TBC) Register now, limited seats available: https://lnkd.in/dNtv4ZNb  David Weston Sean Carroll

Many cities and regions, among them some of our members like Toulouse Métropole and the Municipality of Frederikshavn, have already set up their one-stop shops. With the new Energy Performance of Buildings and Energy Efficiency directives meaning to have a one-stop shop per 80,000 inhabitants, many more municipalities are sure to follow. Sign up for this first summit for the European community of integrated home renovation services on 11 June - a community created to assist these initiatives via capacity building, mentoring and promotion. https://lnkd.in/efxuTzrR #EUPeers FEDARENE

Some cities already run out of water during winter, energy prices have hit record highs, supplies and materials are hard to find - the signs are there and they are unmistakable. Scenarios tell us that we need to consume less energy, water, and materials and leave more room for nature in the cities to achieve our goals. Come join us at #GraftingCities2024 for a session on sufficiency to discuss the wise management of resources! Cities and regions need adequate in-house skills to successfully do their part in the climate transition. There is a need for skilling, reskilling and upskilling programmes and of an increase of the local workforce to implement the Green Deal. We welcome the European Commission's efforts in this direction, but we think more can be done. We have come together with seven other European networks of local and regional governments to pass key messages to EU leaders on the whens and hows of implementing a fair and inclusive transition at the local level. After three years of supporting the development and implementation of scientifically robust, detailed, and integrated transition pathways towards climate neutrality, the #EUCityCalc project is coming to an end. Join us at the final conference at 14:30 on 25 June in Valencia - explore innovative solutions, discover challenges overcome by the pilot cities and draw a comparison between them and your municipality. It is a great opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange. The conference will be followed by an hour long policy session on 26 June addressing the role of cities in climate action in policy making.
