Thank you to the amazing group who joined us this week for our “Power of Parks to Improve Health” Roundtable. Leaders from hospitals, health insurance, city government, academics, private foundations, and community organizations came together with TPL leaders - CEO Diane Regas, Director of Health Dr. Pooja Sarin Tandon, Parks Initiative Lead Bianca Clarke, and NY State Director Tamar Renaud to discuss the many ways that green space can be transformative to public health. Special thanks to featured experts Eric Klinenberg (New York University), Dodi Meyer (NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Irving Medical Center), Andrea Mata (New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)), and Charlie Pettigrew (MetLife). We all agree the evidence is undeniable. We’ll be working together to ensure that the parks that we create and activate achieve their full potential and that from the highest levels, outdoor public spaces are embraced as a first tier health solution.

Celebrating 3 wonderful years of Cook Park! 🎉 This gem in Atlanta's Vine City has transformed the neighborhood with its rich natural retreat where everyone can relax, have fun and connect with the environment. But it's not just an amazing park; it's also a safety shield that helps prevent flooding during heavy rains. You can help create Georgia’s first National Park! Constructed by Indigenous peoples around 900 A.D., the Ocmulgee Mounds were central to life for the Muscogee Nation. Bestowing this sacred place with the highest designation of National Park would honor the original stewards of the land and spur economic development for Middle Georgia. Our Camden Program director Justin Dennis is connecting with environmental, conservation, and climate justice experts and champions this week at GreenLatinos Summit. Together, they’re reflecting on progress and devising strategies for advancing environmental justice and supporting community health.
Proud to be learning, representing Trust for Public Land, and supporting the GreenLatinos Summit in El Yunque in Puerto Rico. It’s great connecting with experts, learning how they are building community and resilience through resistance, and holding loving space for each other without needing to say a word 💜

Birding can be accessible in so many ways, yet equity and safety gaps can prevent it from becoming an inclusive community. To kick off Biggest Week in American Birding in Ohio, our TPL team hosted a guided birding trip to encourage members of underrepresented communities to experience the joys of birding. By breaking down access barriers, like providing binoculars and using inclusive language, we can connect more people to the outdoors and make birding welcoming to everyone. https://lnkd.in/eVzrVcMC
