The CITYPARK MLS Stadium for St. Louis CITY SC creates a new landmark and vibrant mixed-use stadium district in the city’s Downtown West neighborhood. The stadium, filled to capacity at every home game since opening, brings new life and bustling activity to the area. The HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects design team collaborated with St. Louis City SC to design a best-of-class venue that fits within the scale of the neighborhood. Back-of-house features are conveniently located underground, allowing the stadium to offer a ‘front door’ on each of its four sides for fans and the community. Speaking of the stadium’s design HOK’s Chris DeVolder shared: “Lee [St. Louis CITY SC chief brand architect] said many times to us, ‘We don’t want to be ‘best of the last.’ We want to be ‘best to the next.’” Learn more about CITYPARK and its impact on St. Louis in Bloomberg News: https://lnkd.in/gbehWSAz

The University of California, Berkeley, College of Chemistry celebrated the groundbreaking of Heathcock Hall, a new interdisciplinary research and education building designed by HOK. The approximately 80,000-sq.-ft. facility will feature six stories of modern laboratory space to support advanced research in synthetic chemistry, physical chemistry, and chemical and biomolecular engineering. “The Chemistry program has a long and storied history at the University of California, Berkeley,” said Paul Woolford. “We are honored to collaborate with the faculty and leadership to design a thoughtful new addition to this renowned campus.” Heathcock Hall is named in honor of renowned organic chemist and former dean Clayton H. Heathcock, made possible by a cornerstone gift from alumnus Terry Rosen (PhD, Chemistry ‘85) and family. The modular, environmentally efficient facility will reinvigorate the campus’ eastern gateway with stunning views of the Campanile, Memorial Glade and the San Francisco Bay. “Creating a unique sense of place is a vital component of airport design. Arriving passengers should know immediately where they are and what makes that place special. Simplicity of experience and creating a pleasant arrival environment are two other areas this new design can address.” HOK’s co-CEO Eli Hoisington shares how iconic airport designs can impact a community, showcase the local culture and provide a warm welcome for travelers. This Nurses’ Week, HOK recognizes the work and dedication of healthcare’s unsung heroes: nurses. The past several years have challenged these caregivers as they’ve worked through long hours, staff shortages and heightened emotional and physical demands. HOK is honored to serve as a trusted partner in creating spaces that aid nurses in their important work. Combining best practices with lived experiences from leaders like Kathleen Schwarz, a registered nurse with HOK’s Healthcare Consulting group, we continue to explore how design and operations can relieve stress, improve safety and facilitate collaboration. “I always knew I wanted to be nurse,” says Kathleen. “As my career progressed, I became interested in not only providing care but thinking about how to make care better and more efficient and asking how the environment can improve care delivery.” Drawing on her clinical and operational experience as an acute care nurse, Kathleen works with clients to assess their needs, develop strategic plans and optimize designs that support their goals. Listen in as she shares the impact of design on her experience as a nurse and the power of empathetic design: https://lnkd.in/gExjHq8M #healthcare #design #nursesweek #nursing #newyorkpresbyterian #architecture

Great insights on urban planning and resilient design from our own Regional Leader of Urban Design Bill Kenworthey at the recent Urban Land Institute Spring Meeting! Bill joined Christian V. Braneon, PhD, Dr. Bernice Rosenzweig, Robert Freudenberg and Michael Marrella to discuss "NYC 2100: Resiliency, Housing and Equity for the Metropolitan Region with Six Feet of Sea Level Rise." The panel shared their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead to prepare coastal cities like New York for rising sea levels through thoughtful planning and design. A 6-foot sea level rise scenario would impact 60,000 acres of New York, home to 1.4 million people, many of which live in vulnerable communities. Bill and the panel highlighted innovative research and strategies for sustainable growth despite these climate risks.
