Planning permission granted for Soap Works, an industrial-led residential scheme in Ealing for De Vere Partners. Soap Works, an 18-storey residential tower in Greenock Road, will provide 124 flats, a café, and flexible industrial space to retain local businesses within the area. The building achieves this through three floors of light industrial and commercial uses, with a residential accommodation above. The podium and roof terraces provide communal amenity space for the residents, along with urban greening & biodiversity net gain. HTA Design took inspiration from the area's rich history. The building facade responds to the 'brick fields' and 'motor works' factories and the fabrics of the 'soap suds' launderettes that once served the theatres of the East End through a combination of mottled brickwork, Crittall-style glazing, and terracotta panelling. Mentioned in the Architects’ Journal https://lnkd.in/dfnnm88v

HTA have been Bringing Nature Home for 20 years!   To celebrate the HTA Landscape team's 20th birthday, we will be sharing some of our favourite projects from the last 20 years and exploring the role that landscape design plays in enhancing biodiversity in cities, what parks of the future might look like, and how bringing people and nature together take centre-stage in our work. Bexhill is one of the most interesting seaside towns occupying part of the coast between Hastings and Eastbourne. Rother District Council's initiative to improve the connection between the town centre and the historic seafront promenade sought to capture the momentum generated by the restoration of the Modernist De La Warr Pavilion. Our landscape team led the masterplan for the site informed by research into how people move between promenade and town. This included steering a multi-disciplinary team. Stanton Williams redesigned the local rowing club, Alan Baxter Ltd who collaborated with our in-house conservation specialist to introduce a new café and retail uses to a historic colonnade and Duggan Morris designed bespoke shelters to be located in strategic positions along the 700m linear site. To meet the brief and address issues raised in the consultation, connections to and through the extensive lawns around the De La Warr Pavilion were introduced, and to increase dwell time, spacious terraces were established by constructing low walls with seating and new planting. The planting strategy was designed with horticulturalist Noel Kingsbury, incorporating plants that could withstand the harsh coastal climate, selected for their ability to self-seed, reducing the need for maintenance year on year. Next Wave Bexhill had a royal opening by the Duke and Duchess of Wessex in July 2012, with the number of visitors increasing dramatically since then. This landscape-led regeneration has been described as a landscape design that has turned an underused space into an active and attractive place that is a destination on the seafront. #landscape #landscapedesign #publicspaces

A landscape first approach at Cane Hill sets the new development within a mature framework of woodland, hedgerows and trees, providing a desirable green neighbourhood from the outset. This ambitious project has created a strong sense of identity that provides new facilities for Coulsdon and opens up access to the Greenbelt. A green infrastructure network links the open spaces within the development, combining recreational spaces and play with enhanced wildlife corridors and biodiversity. It encourages a healthy lifestyle by offering various uses and characters to appeal to a diverse audience. The new village green forms the focus of residential life at Cane Hill and provides the perfect start to walks that enjoy the dramatic landscape of the North Downs chalk uplands. A new country park is the principal feature of the public realm. The neighbourhood is structured around this. It provides a walking and cycling route that winds through the existing mature trees. The park forms part of a series of recreational trails suitable for a wide range of abilities, from short circular walks within the site, to longer distance trails connecting to the wider countryside. During our post occupancy evaluation at Cane Hill, the residents told us that the green outdoor spaces are cherished places where people are brought together to socialise. Residents have formed a strong local community by using the green spaces; it is fantastic to see that our original design intentions have being realised. #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #publicrealm #openspaces #community

We couldn't have asked for a better discussion on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) this morning. We heard insights from Cast Consultancy's Jeff Endean, HTA Design LLP's Rory Bergin and Cartwright Pickard's Luke Petty into the application of DfMA methods in projects across the country. Not to mention an animated panel discussion including 🐝 Angela Mansell FCIOB of Mansell Building Solutions, who joined the keynote speakers on stage to evaluate the application of modern methods of construction, volumetric modular buildings, and how we can build more houses with the same pound input if we apply DfMA principles. If you came along, we hope you enjoyed the discussion. Thank you for being a part of our Unconventional Materiality series! We've got plenty of events for you to get your teeth stuck into, find out more on our website: https://lnkd.in/evaWi4wj #GreaterManchester #NorthWest #FBE
