Nestled in Pittsburgh’s downtown, also known as the Golden Triangle, Point Park University stands as the city’s sole downtown university, currently enrolling nearly 3,300 students. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of Pittsburgh’s downtown buildings and facilities have sat vacant as professionals continue remote work, decreasing foot traffic in the area. Leveraging its urban location, Point Park University is committed to revitalizing the community and contributing to the renaissance of Downtown Pittsburgh. Addressing these challenges, ULI Pittsburgh and ULI’s advisory services program assembled a cohort of real estate and land use experts nationwide to analyze Downtown Pittsburgh and the university’s revitalization strategies. Following extensive site visits and community interviews, the panel deliberated on ways to strengthen the downtown area’s cultural district, enhance green spaces, and augment urban amenities, all aimed at building a thriving community. Heat pumps offer electric, low-carbon alternatives to gas furnaces, boilers, and air-conditioning units, acting as an all-in-one heating and cooling system. This technology could potentially reduce building-related heating and cooling emissions by up to 20 percent, but not all real estate professionals utilize them. Our latest report 'Pumping Up Sustainability: Myth-Busting Heat Pumps in Commercial Real Estate' dispels several myths surrounding #heatpumps and provides helpful data to encourage the use of heat pumps. Rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and scorching summers are putting a strain on residential real estate. Research on nearly 200 climate events from 2000 to 2019 from The World Economic Forum found that the global costs associated with climate change have cost around $2.8 trillion, when accounting for the cost of damage to infrastructure, property, agriculture, and human health. Lindsay Brugger, AIA, CPHC, Vice President of Urban Resilience at Urban Land Institute sat down with Sustainability Defined to explore the ways climate change has changed the residential real estate landscape, discuss the latest trends in climate-resilient construction, and discover how large asset owners are working towards a more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/e2FeKaRY #resilience #residentialrealestate
