FIFTEEN Team lead by Sharrod Parker, Thomas Lantz, and Kya Kerner, was selected as finalist in the international design competition TACTICAL URBANISM NOW! exploring the revolution of Public Space. Our team was inspired by the question: How do we provide communities with the tools to create public spaces that are inclusive, equitable and participatory? Using our own City of Philadelphia as a canvas for intervention, our proposal explored the opportunities that emerge when tears within the urban fabric are re-imagined as catalysts for change. Sites of abandoned infrastructure become safe, equitable, and resilient urbanscapes that repair and heal vital junctures of communities and nature. We are excited to continue to develop and prototype this idea in pursuit of the creation of interventions that heal, repair, and provide opportunities for social connection. 🏆 WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT 🏆 🛹 TACTICAL URBANISM NOW! - The Revolution of Public Space 👉 Discover all the Awarded Projects: https://lnkd.in/dY7quHXU 🛼 The goal of this competition was to experiment with site-specific case studies that could work as open laboratories to test novel approaches on urban transformation. Participants were given complete freedom to outline the program, the overall output and the extents of their proposal. Likewise, the size and complexity of the intervention was defined by each team according to the needs of that specific neighbourhood, plot, city or community. 🚲 The awarded proposals managed to successfully apply tactical urbanism techniques in contexts of very diverse scales and geographical locations: from the bustling city of Medellin to the port of Beirut, from the cold landscapes of Finland to the historic center of Milan, among many others. 🏅 WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT 🏅 🌲 LIGNANO PINEWOOD - An Eco-Hotel immersed in the Forest 👉 Discover all the Awarded Projects: https://lnkd.in/dSpND7r8 🌿 The ambitious aim of this competition was to achieve the incorporation of an Eco-Hotel complex immersed in the Pinewood landscape of Lignano Sabbiadoro, while simultaneously ensuring the preservation of its natural surroundings. In addition, participants took on the challenge of designing a new Masterplan capable of integrating and reestablishing the connections between the Pinewood area and the urban fabric. 🏆 The winning proposals leaned towards an approach of respect for local identity, preservation of the natural environment and minimal impact. In the Commercial Plaza, areas of public use were improved through colors and textures, increasing pedestrian connections and limiting high-impact interventions.
