A Times article earlier this week using data from Oflog continues to concern councils. LGA Chair Cllr Shaun Davies and Cllr Kevin Bentley, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Cllr Joe Harris and Cllr Marianne Overton wrote to the Secretary of State for the Department for Levelling Up, Communities and Local Government, Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, to highlight the impact on the sector’s trust and confidence in Oflog ⤵ https://lnkd.in/embPHddq

We are the national voice of local government
About us
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national voice of local government. We work with councils to support, promote and improve local government. We are a politically-led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We aim to influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils so they are able to deliver local solutions to national problems. We are a membership organisation. Our core membership comprises 331 of the 333 councils in England and includes district, county, metropolitan and unitary authorities along with London boroughs and the City of London Corporation. The 22 Welsh unitary councils are in membership via the Welsh Local Government Association. We also operate an Associate scheme for organisations whose purpose and objectives are aligned with our own. Our Associates include fire and rescue authorities, police, fire and crime commissioners/police and crime commissioners, national park authorities and town and parish councils via the National Association of Local Councils (NALC)’s corporate associate membership.

The fifth and final challenge is on the horizon in early June, and we’re excited to announce we’ll be taking the cohort to the West Midlands. Huge thanks to Telford & Wrekin Council for hosting us and we can’t wait to reveal the challenge topic to the cohort and see what ideas they produce! #LocalGov elections can result in new political arrangements, including changes of control, no overall control or changes to councils’ portfolio holders and leaders. We have tools and resources to support our member councils. https://ow.ly/eYRR50RycZt

📢 Secondment opportunity at the LGA 📢 We’re seeking a new Interim Director of Strategy and Reform to set the strategic direction of the LGA as an organisation and as the representative body for local government. This is a key leadership role working with the Chief Executive, the political leadership of the LGA and the wider Strategic Management Team to ensure the LGA has an ambitious, deliverable, evidence-based model to achieve public service reform. We will be recruiting on a secondment basis (six to nine months) and hybrid working is available. Location will not be a factor. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eqzgVtMv Applications close at 12pm on Friday 17 May.
