The 2021 Charter Cities Institute Fellowship
Dates: August 15-25, 2021
Location: Virtual
The Charter Cities Institute (CCI) is pleased to announce our summer Fellowship. This Fellowship is open to graduate students and young professionals from the global south with expertise in urban development.
This is a ten day program with the first three days dedicated to learning about charter cities, and the next seven days dedicated to self-directed projects with mentorship from CCI staff. Particularly impressive fellows may have their project ideas mentored and potentially funded long-term by CCI's partnerships or research team.
The Fellowship will expose participants to academic and real-life urban discourse. Participants will be connected to top leaders in the field and our partner organizations, from mainstream academic scholars to tech startups and the international development community.
Young people are underrepresented in the urbanization discourse. The CCI fellowship seeks to provide an opportunity to develop cutting-edge ideas with urban practitioners across diverse backgrounds and empower the Fellows with the needed tools to shape urban futures.
Background
The Charter Cities Institute is a rapidly-growing non-profit research organization that is empowering new cities with better governance to lift tens of millions of people out of poverty. We are a cutting-edge, well-funded organization, composed of researchers, communicators, international developers, partnership experts, and more, all dedicated to building the ecosystem for charter cities. We advise and convene key stakeholders including, governments, new city developers, and multilateral institutions, and influence the global agenda through research, engagement, and partnerships.
The Charter Cities Institute (CCI) has developed a model that injects transformative policies at sub-national levels. Charter cities—new cities with new rules—unleash the talent too often left dormant in many developing world cities. By improving governance through deep regulatory and administrative reforms in a delimited geographic area, charter cities create a competitive local business environment that attracts investment and spurs the entrepreneurship needed to kickstart sustained economic growth.
