About the Role
Gehl San Francisco is searching for a talented and multi-disciplinary designer whose skills lie at the intersection of user-research and place strategy.
The interested candidate should be a dynamic and creative problem solver with a sensitivity to people-centered design methodologies applied to the experience of place. This interdisciplinary position may attract candidates from a range of backgrounds and experiences. We are particularly interested in designers with strong visual communication skills and a passion for urban systems. With these skills, the candidate would join an exciting mission-oriented team committed to making cities around the globe healthier, inclusive and more sustainable.
Gehl — San Francisco is a high energy, dynamic and growing 12-person team that focuses on urban design and strategies. We collaborate with our colleagues in New York and Copenhagen on projects of all scales throughout the U.S. and Latin America for a wide range high profile clients, including governments, real estate developers, corporate clients, international organizations and foundations.
About You
The candidate must possess the following skill set:
- Research. Experience using Human Centered Design methods to reveal end-user preferences.
- Analytical skills. Ability to interpret, derive insights and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data.
- Storytelling: Craft compelling narratives that connect larger trends with individual experience.
- Graphic design - visual communication - ability to communicate complex ideas with simplicity. Relevant examples of work may include data visualization, mapping, concept diagrams, illustrative renderings, sketches, instructional diagrams, user journeys, 3D renderings, branding, etc.
- Interest in urbanism, urban design public space, public realm, and generally how people experience places.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in a relevant field: Architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, graphic design, interaction design, UX design, or behavioral design, and other related disciplines.
- A visual portfolio showing a wide range of visual products.
- At least two years of professional experience, including internships or applied academic work. Applicants with a higher level of experience can also apply and be considered for other roles.
- Since a portion of our portfolio is in Latin America, knowledge of Spanish is a plus. Professional licensure is not required.
- Applicants for this position must have authorization to work legally in the United States and be based in the United States.
