Urbanice Malaysia is a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cities and Community Well-being, set up as a Company Limited By-Guarantee (CLBG) under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. With the aim to achieve a sustainable urban nation, Urbanice advocates the localisation of the sustainable development goals in the development of liveable cities and climate responsive urban development. In delivering this mission, Urbanice Malaysia focuses to localise and mainstream the sustainable urban agenda, catalyse urban solutions, foster community resilience, and promote climate-actions for the sustainability of our communities and cities.

About the Role

We are looking for individuals who believe that cities are the forefront in creating a better world for everyone. Background The Malaysia SDG Cities is a national initiative that unleashes the potential of cities in Malaysia to accelerate sustainable development and implement the New Urban Agenda. It recognizes that cities and communities are crucial in determining its own set of priorities and decides on the means of implementation to ensure that the SDG Goals and targets are met. The framework is set to encourage a bottom-up approach in developing local action plans that will accelerate the SDGs achievements for Malaysia where the 17 SDGs and its 169 targets of the 2030 Sustainable Agenda must be achieved. Localizing the global goals at cities and urban areas is important for an urban nation like Malaysia and the Malaysia SDG Cities will ensure that vertical integration between national and state policies at all levels are aligned to the SDGs by realizing the aspirations and ensuring of its effective implementation locally. To date, more than 20 cities in Malaysia onboarded the program in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and New Urban Agenda. The flagship is responsible for reviewing and reporting SDGs performance and progress against the delivery of the 2030 Agenda. This includes evaluating the action of our cities on their sustainability initiatives, development plans and outcomes on each SDGs (through its Local Indicators for Cities)

What You're Gonna Do

Position Description - Support programme management and coordination across the onboarding cities and URBANICE Malaysia - Support the team to plan and deliver meetings with partners, contributing to the preparation of reports and meeting notes, and collecting inputs from URBANICE Malaysia to advance proposals and/or discussions with the city. - Support drafting, writing, formatting and editorial of reports on SDGs performance and assessment to be shared with cities - Support project management and work tracking, ensuring information is available, organized, easy to access and up to date. - Contribute or lead specific tasks that support the team's work plan – including completing bespoke research or analysis on topics, collating and gathering information or facilitating discussion or exchange. - Additional duties as requested.

About You

Person Specification: - 2 years or more experience in government, business or NGO sectors with a focus on cities, sustainability, climate change and/or climate finance. - Experience of working in or with cities or stakeholders in Malaysia - Fluency in English. Good written and verbal communication skills in English. - Good problem-solving skills and analytical capabilities. - Excellent organizational, project and time management skills. - Excellent attention to detail. - Ability to effectively manage/coordinate simultaneous projects, and successfully prioritize multiple tasks with sound judgement. - Resourceful, motivated, efficient and proactive. - Strong overall computer skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
