Bauhaus der Erde gGmbH is a non-profit organization with the objective to transform the built environment. Our purpose is to transform the way we construct and maintain the built environment so that the human species may live in dignity and harmony with the Earth’s natural systems.
About the Role
Starting in October 2022, Bauhaus Earth will launch a new Fellowship Program. As a joint initiative of the non-profit Xperimental Academy (X-A) and the Bauhaus Earth (BE), the program supports Fellows and their projects that contribute to the implementation of the building turnaround through the impact of design expression and architectural quality. It offers young, exceptionally talented protagonists a platform and support in the development and implementation of their excellent ideas, in order to provide important impulses for the sustainable building of the future from concrete design and construction practice.
The advertised position of scientific researcher will support the development and management of the program in terms of content, organization and communication. It is expected to work closely with the program director Matthias Ballestrem.
Fields of activity will include
- research in the area of sustainable architectural design, building materials and construction
- research grants and funding
- networking, social media and communication
- event organization (workshops, exhibitions etc.)
- active participation in design, planning and construction in Fellowship and other Bauhaus Earth projects
EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS: Layout and/or CAD computer skills; strong communication and network management skills; text and image production; network management and maintenance;
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Master’s degree in architecture or another relevant subject. CORE COMPETENCIES: creative talent, conceptual critical thinking, strategical planning;
EXPERIENCE: Practical and research experience in the fields of experimental design and/or sustainable construction and/or bio-based materials is desirable.
What You're Gonna Do
In general, we expect that our colleagues will be inclined to
- independent inquiry and elaboration of the above-mentioned thematic complexes, including formulation of relevant research questions and positing of possible solutions in terms of sustainable transformation in the urban building sector;
- collegial cooperation in the team and also with other external partners of Bauhaus Earth;
- Interest in and willingness to follow relevant expert discussions and social debates on complex
topics;

- a passion for the built environment and for urban transformation processes as well as enthusiasm for environmental issues and systems analytical thinking;
- technical expertise in climate change and/or building and urban planning;
- a high level of competence in written and spoken German and English;
- an independent way of working and initiative;

- an ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics;
- creativity and openness to new approaches, people, methods, techniques and mind-sets;
- reliability, resilience, and strong motivation;
- computer skills, including modelling expertise if relevant to job description.

Positions are initially scheduled to end on 30.06.2025. Renumeration is based on the requirements of the collective bargaining agreement of the federal states (TV-L Brandenburg) with a working time of 24 hours/week. The place of work is Potsdam/Berlin.
