About the Role
Are you an enthusiastic urban researcher interested in cities, their communities and economies and exploring how these are shaped?
We’re seeking a candidate with knowledge and an interest in cities and spaces and the processes by which they are shaped. The ideal candidate will be experienced in undertaking quantitative and qualitative research with expertise in cultural infrastructure, participative methods and peer research/ citizen science. You should be confident in a project and client management role, adaptable and keen to develop skills across a broad range of projects.
The Urban Research Unit at We Made That combines incisive analysis with strategic thinking about the built environment. The team bring robust socio-economic and spatial analysis skills to our wider portfolio of socially- responsible urban projects across the UK. This role includes working within our Urban Research Unit to deliver desk-based research and data auditing, to conduct primary research and stakeholder engagement, to analyse qualitative and quantitative research findings and to contribute to report writing and strategy development.
You’ll be involved in diverse research projects covering themes such as culture and creative industries, high streets, community engagement, and strategic development for towns and cities across the UK. You’ll be driven by wanting to help create equitable places through incisive research and impactful projects.
What You're Gonna Do
The ideal candidate will be an experienced urban researcher, familiar with working as part of a small team and comfortable in managing their time across multiple projects, working with members of the public, contributing to research development and communicating data in an accurate and concise way.
You must be a talented researcher, with good technical knowledge, strong visual and graphic skills and with a great eye for presentation. Working within a project team you should be comfortable reporting to project leads, working directly with clients and manage deadlines and project workload effectively.
Project focused:
- contribute to day to day running of projects, undertaking administration, project management tasks and research
- working with our peer researchers and citizen scientists to achieve project outcomes
- analysis of primary and secondary information and presenting data and findings in an accurate and concise way
- produce visual maps, graphs and well-structured reports with a considered, high design quality
- contribute to developing urban-scale strategies, participative co-design projects and early stages of project development
- contribute to bid submissions and research proposals
- devise engagement strategies for projects, including facilitating workshops and events
- lead presentations to teams, project collaborators, clients and stakeholders
- manage other assistants and be a good team player
- actively participate in CPD (continuing professional development), design reviews, training and internal practice knowledge shares
- demonstrate a powerful public conscience in pursing project goals and practice aims
About You
You must be a be a talented and inquisitive urban researcher with a keen interest in working on projects delivering social impact. You should have a fluency in working with a broad spectrum of people - including the wider public – in driving projects forwards. Excellent communication skills and a desire to contribute to lively, creative and productive team working required.
Essential:
- have a degree level qualification in urban/cities studies, political sciences or a similar related discipline
- be familiar with city regeneration contexts and best practice across the UK
- have UK-based experience of urban research commissions, ideally for
- public sector clients
- experience in undertaking quantitative and qualitative research through
- analytical and engaged processes
- strong AdobeCS and visuals kills with a keen eye for presentation
- proficiency with GIS software
- excellent command of written and spoken English
- collaborative and can-do attitude
- good project and client management skills, with the ability to drive project
- development forwards with meaningful impact
- have a genuine interest in delivering social impact through our project work
- demonstrate keen appreciation of environmental performance impacts
Desired:
- have 3 -5 years relevant professional experience post Masters-level qualification in economics, political science, urban systems, policy studies or similar related subject
- have worked in a similar role within a place-making, architecture or academic organisation, including in the public sector;
- experience managing a team of assistants
- experience running engagement events and workshops
- experience using CMAP or similar project management software
