About the Role

The faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is currently accepting applications for the position of junior professor level (W1) (assistant professor) for European Cities and Urban Heritage. The interdisciplinary teaching and research of this position focus on the European City and its urban heritage. As part of the Institute for European Urban Studies, the professorship should integrate historical aspects of architecture and urban design, urban planning, heritage and preservation as well as urban sociology.

What You're Gonna Do

As part of the Institute of European Urbanism, the professorship should connect historical aspects of urban architecture and construction, the preservation of historical monuments, urban sociology and planning. Reinforcing the link between urban and heritage studies, the position will contribute to shaping the agenda of the main research area of Planning.Building.Heritage as well as the English-language master degree program European Urban Studies. The professorship is international in scope and its research is expected to be characterised by a European perspective and embedded into European research networks.

About You

The faculty is looking for a qualified candidate who fulfils the aforementioned profile in teaching and research based on her/his academic qualifications and career. This includes credentials that show the candidate’s outstanding expertise to represent a perspective on the European City that integrates urban and heritage studies in teaching and research. Prerequisites include a pertinent doctoral degree, individual publications, experience teaching at a university level, and intercultural and didactic competence. Candidates should also have experience in applying for third-party funds. Access conditions to the position are in accordance with § 89 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act. Very good English and German language skills are required for the position.

The position will be initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension for a further three years based on a positive performance evaluation.
