About Us

SLU develops the knowledge about how to use natural, biological land and water resources in a sustainable manner. Education, research and environmental monitoring and assessment are pursued at some thirty locations all over the country. The main campuses are Alnarp, Umeå and Uppsala.

About the Role

The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management is part of the faculty for Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences. Teaching and research responsibilities of the department cover six thematic areas: landscape planning, landscape analysis, governance and management, urban vegetation, cultural heritage, and design of urban landscapes. Teaching and research are multidisciplinary, including the perspectives of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technology. Of special concern is the development of action-oriented knowledge about society and sustainable urban environments through studies of planning and design practices. The department’s staff comprises 80 members, active in both teaching and research. The position in the main subject of landscape architecture concerns the design, construction and management of urban vegetation from all its aspects, with the aim to enhance the contribution of vegetation to sustainable and attractive urban environments that can deliver ecosystem services. This includes understanding and knowledge of ecological, dynamic, technical and aesthetic principles for guiding the design, construction and maintenance of vegetation, as well as an understanding of the urban landscape's social and cultural context.

What You're Gonna Do

The professor is expected to successfully lead and develop the subject area urban vegetation at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management. This includes producing scientific publications of high quality, obtaining research grants and developing both research and teaching at all levels, and contributing with relevant knowledge to society. The professor will have a leading role in the development of the landscape laboratory at SLU Campus Alnarp, as well as maintaining existing and developing new national and international networks with academia, business, organizations and society in general. Personnel management and administration of academic staff may be included in the tasks.
