About the Role

Applications are invited for a funded postdoctoral research associate in the Manufacturing Group for the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering in The University of Manchester. This post is part of a multi-disciplinary 11 months EPSRC funded project EP/S025200/1 - Rethinking Resources and Recycling (RE3). The aim and vision for the project is to seek solutions to the challenge of plastics pollution through an integrated approach that explicitly couples socio-technological understanding. You will join a concerted, focused consortium of diverse individuals who are engaging in stakeholder conversations, multi-disciplinary projects and incubating projects into translatable solutions. Your focus and leadership will be on the challenges of invisible plastics (plastics that that are micro and nanoscale in dimensions) and found in domestic water systems. You will understand the challenge, design solutions and use laser based additive manufacture to, manufacture, test and optimise systems for removal of invisible plastics from water systems. This challenge will be tackled in the context of invisible plastics in Urban Environments and feed into future research ideas. You will work closely within the multi-disciplinary team and with, external non-academic partners to deliver project outcomes on time. You should have proven ability to work independently, possess strong mathematical and data analysis skills, and be able to present results in an effective manner. You should be able to interact effectively with researchers from other disciplines and industrial partners. Good written and oral communication skills are essential.
