About the Role
The University of Basel, Switzerland, Departement of Social Sciences invites applications for a Senior Lecturer in Urban Studies with the appointment scheduled to begin on August 1, 2020. This full-time position is for a period of three years.
The position forms part of the Urban Studies group in the Department of Social Sciences, located within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. You are expected to have a very active research profile and to contribute substantially to the teaching, instruction and student advising.
About You
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in urban studies or in a related discipline. They should demonstrate excellent research skills and their publication record should include papers in high-ranking scientific journals. Their teaching and research focus on urban lifeworlds and processes across the Global North/South divide. Particularly welcome are applicants with expertise in mobility and migration, border practices, transnational infrastructure, or the spatial dimensions of global conflict. We are interested in applicants with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, and the ability to lead urban fieldwork courses, preferably in a Global Southern context. Candidates should feel comfortable to teach in collaborative settings, and be able to advise students coming from diverse disciplinary and personal backgrounds. German language proficiency is an asset.
