About Us

CITYFÖRSTER was founded in 2005 and is an internationally active and interdisciplinary partnership of architects, engineers and urban planners with employees from over ten countries. Our team is led by seven partners and is located in Hanover, Rotterdam and Tirana. With our cooperation partners throughout Germany and Europe, we act as a cross-border and cross-disciplinary competence network locally, regionally and internationally. We design, plan and realize buildings, urban structures and public realm for the compact, socially and functionally mixed, multimodally networked, productive, circularly organized and climate-adaptive city. Our services cover the entire spectrum from the idea to the execution and project management. We specialize in strategic planning, international development projects and experimental, resource- and recycling-friendly construction. Our topics are new working environments and forms of housing, sustainable tourism, public spaces and innovative mobility concepts.

About the Role

Cityförster is looking for a senior architect/urban designer to join its team in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Cityförster is an international architecture and urban design firm with offices across Europe. Our Rotterdam team comprises ten young and driven professionals from a variety of backgrounds. They work alongside people from our global network on projects that improve life in cities and make our urban environments healthier and more sustainable. We challenge ourselves to push boundaries, find smart solutions and address social, economic and environmental issues from a spatial perspective. Our Rotterdam team is currently mainly involved in projects located in Northwest and Southeast Europe, as well as China. To scale up our operations and meet the expectations of our increasingly ambitious clients, Cityförster Rotterdam is looking for an experienced, enterprising and highly ambitious architect with a broad outlook.

What You're Gonna Do

Drawing on your professional expertise and wide-ranging interests, you will develop creative plans, and visions on various scales and levels of detailing, for our international clients. You successfully combine a talent for design with a knack for finding high-impact and sustainable solutions. In each new project you are able to convey your enthusiasm for your innovative designs to our clients. This is the easy part, since you have listened carefully to their needs and ideas and have successfully translated these into a strong and innovative design. You also ensure the clients have confidence in the design, by communicating it in a clear and attractive manner – which is where your proficiency in design and presentation software (esp. Rhino, Adobe CS) comes in. You manage project teams (also in collaboration with other offices) with a clear goal in mind; by understanding and keeping track of the various interests involved, you can achieve maximum results. You are aided in this process by your professional expertise, ability to find alternative solutions, and talent for teamwork, coaching and leadership. You have won a number of high-end competitions and have worn responsibility for several realised and published projects on a medium to large scale. Your reports and presentations are brief and concise, beautiful and persuasive. Your business acumen allows you to be budget-minded when working on projects. You work on new business projects and competitions in addition to your day-to-day tasks. You motivate, support, and give guidance to the team to deliver outstanding results and grow in their professional development. You feel confident in your role as team leader, and can manage projects independently. At the same time, you work closely together with Martin Sobota, the partner in charge of Cityförster Rotterdam.

About You

You’re willing to commit to Cityförster for a minimum of 32 hours a week and share your experience, creativity and enthusiasm with clients and peers. In addition to holding a master’s degree in architecture, at least 6 years of work experience in a renowned office, and an excellent written and spoken command of English and preferably Dutch (or willingness to learn Dutch), your leadership skills are essential to being successful in this role.

What We Offer

A fascinating position at an international firm with a public mission: the desire to make the world a better place. You will be given the freedom to use your talent and creativity and apply your expertise to drive our firm’s growth in the years to come. Depending on your background and experience, we will make you an offer appropriate for this position and based on your knowledge and experience.
