About Us

Eindhoven University of Technology is a research-driven university of international standing, where excellent research and excellent education go hand in hand. We focus on a balanced approach towards education, research and valorization of knowledge in the areas of engineering science and technology.

About the Role

The Urban Planning and Transportation group is looking for a post-doc to carry out research at the Built Environment Department of the Eindhoven University of Technology. The research project lasts till 31-12-2020 (with possibility to extend till 31-12-2021). The project is funded by the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) as part of the EIT Urban Mobility call. OSCAR, the project for which the current open position is available, is one of various projects funded in 2020. The ultimate goal of MOBiLus ("Mobility for Liveable Urban Spaces" ) consortium is to accelerate solutions that improve our collective use of urban spaces, while ensuring accessible, convenient, safe, efficient, sustainable and affordable multimodal mobility. The post-doc will work at the Department of the Built Environment. Within the department of the Built Environment, education and research focus on the development and use of creativity and technology for the design and construction of a comfortable, healthy and sustainable built environment. The Department’s philosophy is multidisciplinary, as fosters integral and innovative research approaches in the planning, construction, control, evaluation, and improvement of buildings and urban areas. This approach is based on fundamental scientific knowledge and uses mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative, to facilitate further application for the built environment. Project Description The project OSCAR (an Off-Street parking floating CARsharing service) will develop and pilot test a one-way station-based carsharing service with existing off-street parking and real customers. The service will be initially tested in one city and scalability to other European cities based on the results of the first trial will be considerd. Recommendations will be provided to cities interested in new urban mobility services complementing the existing transportation alternatives. For efficient deployment of the proposed car-sharing service, user acceptance and willingness to pay the car-sharing service are important input. To obtain that, the following research activities will be conducted by TUE. First, a stated choice survey will be designed with the incorporation of contextual dependency, pricing schemes, relocation strategies, choice adaptation, and technology acceptance for using one-way station-based car-sharing in the pilot areas. The efficient design will be applied in the online stated choice survey. Second, advanced technology acceptance and behavioral choice models will be applied to analyze survey and usage data collected in the pilot areas. Hybrid choice models will be applied to estimate the related parameters.
