About the Role
We are now looking for two new research area leads: 1) Lead for Governance for the Future 2) Lead for Sustainability Transitions.
Demos Helsinki is an independent think tank set up in 2005. We want to affect the ongoing global transformations actively and build sustainable and fair post-industrial societies. We aim to create lasting impact through research, consulting, and other activities. For 15 years, we have helped governments, research councils, corporations, cities, NGOs, and universities grasp and build desirable futures.
We are now growing our research operations with the objective of establishing a world-class research institute. We do this to speed up societal change and to provide evidence, scenarios, and knowledge on how to build a fair and sustainable societies. We are establishing two new research areas that complement our current research work in futures studies, urban transformations, and research impact.
We welcome you to join our international and multidisciplinary team of close to 50 experts from various fields of science, engineering, and arts. We are already involved in research projects in the highly competed Horizon 2020 and Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland programmes and partner with some of the most influential changemakers and research and innovation organisations in the world.

About You
We are looking for two new research area leads who:
- Have the sense of urgency of speeding up the transition towards ecologically and socially sustainable societies;
- Are enthusiastic about the impact research can make;
- Are intimate with an integrative approach looking at society’s grand challenges from a transdisciplinary perspective;
- Are curious about the ongoing transformations of the political, societal, and economic systems and their implications to the environment, equality, democracy, and governance;
- Have a strong background in one of the research areas we are recruiting for;
- Have a research topic of their own and wish to grow that to a larger research agenda;
- Have good networking, people, and project management skills.
