About the Role
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
The intern will work as part of the UN-Habiat Urban Lab in Mexico City working in regional and city scale urban projects that combine the areas of urban planning, urban design, urban legislation, municipal finance, climate change and social inclusion.
What You're Gonna Do
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period
Under the Supervision of Head of the Mexico Country Office the intern will:
- Assist in the definition and implementation of the Mexico and Cuba Office activities and outputs, such as:
- Assist in the development of urban planning and design policies, strategies, plans and projects to support municipalities in Mexico and Cuba.
- Support the Urban Lab in Mexico in the development of concrete urban planning and design projects, urban plans, workshops, trainings, Charrettes and different tools to promote urban planning and design.
- Support the development of concept notes and project proposals in the areas of urban planning and design, project bankability, climate change, urban resilience and urban management and innovation.
- Assist in the development of UN-Habitat/UPDB urban planning policy documents, guidelines, information materials, presentations through identification and review of relevant publications and documents, drafting and commenting on documents, and assisting in producing information materials.
- Conduct research and produce actionable outputs in urban planning and design, public space design, urban regeneration, urban innovation in planning and mobility, climate change and housing according to professional experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
About You
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme. Students of Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes in urban sciences, urban studies, urban planning, environmental studies, Geo-information systems, architecture, computer science and data analysis are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent.
