The University of Manchester seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Urban Design and is looking for applications from candidates who specialise in urban design practice and the delivery of urban design projects through a technical and applied studio-based approach. In particular, we seek candidates who can evidence a commitment to teaching/delivering contextually responsive urban design interventions at multiple scales, and who have skills in utilsing a wide range of urban design techniques and software in the development and delivery of design proposals. With an established urban design teaching team and postgraduate masters programme in place, the successful candidate must have the ability to work collegially within this structure to deliver existing studio modules and assist in the design of new and innovative curriculum.

All candidates should include in their applications an Urban Design Portfolio. This portfolio should demonstrate your understanding of the process of urban design practice. It can include your own design work and/or student work you have directly supervised. The portfolio should provide clear evidence of your technical skills [including applied urban design techniques, core design software, technical drawing, and hand/urban-sketching], urban design analysis, design development and proposals, visualization and presentation skills, and your commitment to contextually responsive design interventions across multiple scales in the built environment. It should be presented at A3 landscape format and be a maximum of 12 pages – It must not exceed a file size limit of 20MB.
