About the Role
The Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD) seeks to fill a position of Graduate Assistant in Urbanism and urban project, for a maximum period of 5 years.
This position is linked to the responsibility of Muriel Delabarre.
The IGD is an interdisciplinary community of about 100 academics that work in the fields of Geography and Sustainability.
With 15 professors and more than 40 PhD students, the department offers a vibrant, stimulating environment for cutting-edge research.
It hosts regular lecture series and distinguished guest researchers from around the world.
What You're Gonna Do
The successful candidate will develop personal research leading to a PhD in the field of Urbanism with formal title would be PhD in environmental sciences / studies .
Her / his research topic should focus on urban project in three possible directions :
- Resilience and adaptation to climate change in urban projects : green and blue infrastructure, urban heat islands, polluted sites and soils, water as a resource, etc.;
- Environmental patterns and biodiversity : morphology of urban fabrics and park systems, etc.;
- The tools of planning projects for thinking about transitions : master plan, graphic and cartographic representations, evaluative analyses, etc.

The successful candidate will devote at least half of working time to her / his PhD research (40% for this position), with the remaining time reserved for supporting research and teaching of Muriel Delabarre in the fields of Urbanism, Urban project, urban ecology, as a graduate assistant (40% for this position).
French is the teaching language at UNIL.
About You
The successful candidate is expected to have earned a Master’s degree in Urbanism, Landscape Urbanism, Geography, Architecture or Ecology and have a solid knowledge of urban design.
The field of urban design in practice in an urban environment and / or on a territorial scale must be familiar to the candidate.
He / she must have graphic qualities and master CAO / DAO tools : freehand drawing and computer-assisted drawing software (Adobe Suite, QGis, Sketchup).
French and English language proficiency is expected (French is the working language of the work as well as the teaching language at UNIL).
The candidate will be expected to demonstrate good interpersonal skills as well as initiative and autonomy.
