About the Role

In this role, you will work to provide project coordination, research and administrative support to the WRI Africa Cities Program including support in the scaling of transit mapping in African cities and integrated transport planning. Your responsibilities will include project coordination, event organization of workshops, staff visits, and external meetings, as well as research or project support as needed and as time permits. You will have the opportunity to connect with sustainable mobility and urban development experts and engage with experts and colleagues around the world.

What You're Gonna Do

Research & Knowledge - Support WRI Africa Cities program activities, regional initiatives particularly in select African cities on sustainable urban mobility and access, public transport and paratransit network mapping, integrated transport planning and climate-friendly urban mobility policies - Collaborate with city governments’, local partners including academic institutions and mapping groups to identify needs and propose synergies - Support on conducting and analyzing research on best practices and policies in urban mobility including public transport mapping, integrated transport planning and accessibility - Support the technical assistance provided by WRI staff and partners in conducting a series of trainings on creation and maintenance of open transit data in cities and wider benefits for transport planning and sustainable mobility - Identify tools and applications that would be useful for transport planning and find potential links with local universities or other organizations - Support the WRI Africa Cities program activities, particularly on sustainable urban mobility policy research, data interpretation and analytical issues including on road safety, complete streets, accessibility, public transport and para-transit network mapping, and integrated transport planning Project Management - Support coordination of urban mobility projects in the region to ensure consistency and high-quality deliverables. This includes coordination with diverse team of researchers, decision makers, and practitioners to implement projects and advance research within the urban mobility program - Collaborate with city governments’, local partners and WRI staff globally to advance the WRI Africa Cities Program Manage day-to-day research and project implementation including to prepare work plans, follow up on project implementation and prepare of progress reports among others - Organize internal and external conferences, meetings, training, events and other activities as part of the WRI Africa Cities Program - Support on reporting and budgeting, as needed with the WRI Global team, partners and funders - Help coordinate visits of international staff to WRI Africa and other travel activity of partners Communications - Provide content for WRI communications activities, including blogs, newsletters and the WRI Africa website - Support development of reports to city governments, funders and others on WRI activities - Prepare presentations and written and graphic content to presentations and reports

About You

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in environment, sustainable development, transport or city planning, GIS or a related field - Proficient in French and English languages - Minimum two years of experience working with GIS, preferably in urban planning and transport with knowledge of GTFS preferred Demonstrable previous work experience and enthusiasm regarding sustainable urban mobility – public transport and innovation on these issues - Demonstrated ability to work well in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, juggle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines - Detail-oriented, organized and independent thinker - Clear and effective written and oral communication skills - Ability to travel frequently
