About the Role

The SCAMP team led by Professor Mireille Toledano are seeking a Research Associate in Public Involvement & Engagement to develop and lead public involvement, engagement and communications activities to support an ambitious and exciting new programme of work addressing multifactorial pathways to adolescent mental health over the next 5 years following a UKRI MRC grant funding extension worth £2.4m. Launched in 2014, SCAMP (Study of Cognition, Adolescents and Mobile Phones) is a major prospective cohort study, following secondary school pupils across London from Year 7 (ages 11-12) through to early adulthood to investigate whether use of mobile phones and other wireless technologies affect young people’s neurocognitive, behavioural and mental health outcomes. SCAMP is a key study within the newly established Mohn Centre for Children’s Health & Wellbeing, which will focus on children’s mental and physical health in urban environments. What You're Gonna Do

You will play a crucial role in liaising with SCAMP schools and in developing an effective SCAMP study communications strategy. You will be encouraged to pursue and publish research on public involvement of young people in research, within this framework. You will liaise with internal and external contacts to support the PPI/E activities of SCAMP, including collaboration with wider departments and external contacts undertaking Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement work (PPI/E) e.g. the Patient Experience Research Centre (PERC). The post also involves providing some support to the communications and PPI/E strategy for the Mohn Centre for Children’s Health & Wellbeing.

About You

You must have a PhD or equivalent in a scientific area related to public health or equivalent experience. You will have significant experience of working in a PPI/E role in the health or academic sector. They will need to be a confident self-starter, an excellent communicator, and have strong and empathetic influencing skills, discretion and sense of judgement.

What We Offer

The role is full-time and fixed term for 12 months in the first instance. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
