About the Role
As part of Bloomberg Associates’ work to develop and implement the Atlanta Chief Health Officer’s portfolio and priorities, BA seeks candidates for a public health policy fellow position focused on executing key public health initiatives that tackle the greatest health challenges facing Atlantans from approximately November 2020 – May 2020. The selected Public Health Policy Fellow will report to BA staff and support BA projects to tackle HIV via a PrEP for All campaign and chronic disease prevention via a healthy food procurement policy. Specific assignments may include:
- Health Communications. Assisting with health-related campaigns, reports, and public communications.
- Assist and support BA and CHO with planning and operations of the City’s COVID-19 Racial and Ethnic Disparities Advisory Council
- Lead for technology, research and coordination, communications and meeting facilitations
- Working with BA to assemble informative content, coordinate focus groups, and assist in drafting an RFI for two HIV communications campaigns
- Support BA in crafting PrEP provider educational materials, such as assistance in drafting a PrEP provider guide
- Assist BA in researching City health plans and developing a template and gathering data for the Atlanta version
- Assist with planning and development of city initiatives to address chronic health issues, including health equity
What You're Gonna Do
- Support BA to develop the CHO’s public health messaging and communications materials.
- Work with BA to collect relevant public health data, research and prepare the City’s COVID work, including a city health report.
- Keep abreast of city, state, and national public health policy and market trends to determine their impact on care delivery efforts across the City while regularly briefing the CHO.
- Work with BA and the CHO on the next iteration of the Mayor's Summit on Emotional Wellness for Women.
- Advance the implementation of selected chronic disease prevention efforts including healthy food procurement, as needed.
- Advance BA and CHO efforts to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV including launching a targeted PrEP campaign.
- Collaborate closely with BA, the CHO and the Fulton and Dekalb County Boards of Health to advance partnerships related to the Atlanta’s health priority projects.
- The Health Policy Fellow may also participate in and help handle City advisory groups and task forces as requested by BA and the CHO.
- Work with BA to develop a monitoring and evaluation plan for Atlanta’s health initiatives.
- Represent the CHO’s office in meetings and events as needed.
- Communicate BA and the CHO’s programmatic updates to partners and staff as needed.
About You
We seek dedicated, curious individuals with outstanding research, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Other qualifications include:
- Master’s degree candidate or recent Bachelor’s graduate in public health, the social sciences, policy or a related field.
- Health communications experience or training (or related experience in social services)
- Proven interest in public health, equity and/or social justice.
- Training in quantitative and qualitative research methodology, health data collection and biostatistics related to infectious disease prevention, social determinants of health, emotional health, chronic disease prevention and/or health disparities and equity is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse partners, including elected and appointed officials.
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams.
- Proven attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with statistical software including STATA and Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is desirable.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to working in a collaborative, team-oriented workplace.
- Track record of producing high-quality research papers commensurate with professional experience.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including an ability to learn new topics quickly
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and develop new skills on the job.
