About Us

Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) is an international centre of excellence in sensors, data analysis and interpretation, and smart city systems. We develop cutting-edge sensing and data analysis models to provide a powerful platform for delivering data that enables smarter and proactive asset management decision-making, both during construction of new infrastructure and for existing structures.

About the Role

A position exists, for a Research Assistant in the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), Department of Engineering, to work on a Digital Twin project investigating its relationship with urban governance in the Cambridge sub-region. The project is funded by the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB) and will focus on how currently existing governance systems - both in terms of their structural and cultural characteristics - influence the conceptualisation, form, content and implementation of a city's "Digital Twin" (i.e. a digital representation of its assets, processes or systems in the built or natural environment that supports improved decision-making).

What You're Gonna Do

- Stakeholder mapping; - Collecting qualitative data via interviews and observations; - Managing, coding and analysing qualitative data; - Developing insights on the impact of local contextual factors for digitally enabled (via the digital twin) governance in city planning and management.

About You

- Experience in collecting, coding and analysing qualitative data; - Very good communication and writing skills; - Research interest and experience in urban studies and contemporary urban governance; - Experience in using specialised software for qualitative data processing (e.g. NVivo) is desirable; - The post holder must have obtained (or is close to obtaining) a Master's degree (or Bachelor's plus equivalent research experience) in a relevant field such as social or political science, social geography, architecture or civil engineering.
