About the Programme
Between September and November 2018 the city of Istanbul will host its 4th Design Biennale. Titled A School of Schools, this edition will act as a “multi-platform biennale that uses, tests, and revises a variety of educational strategies to reflect on the role of design, knowledge, and global connectedness. Engaging multigenerational, transdisciplinary practitioners from Turkey and abroad, A School of Schools brings together old and new knowledge, academic and amateur, professional and personal, focusing on the process as much as the outcomes.”
Within this context, the action-research project Making Futures Bauhaus+ travels to Istanbul for the first in a series of mobile workshops. Taking part will be invited participants as well as those selected via an open call. The rich, four-day-long programme encompasses visits to the biennial, public readings, lectures and site-explorations with local partners.
Mobile workshops are conducted on to move and take the form of ambulatory learning constellations geared towards dialogue, deep collaboration and lasting relations that hope to expand the traditional field of academic research and its network. Most importantly, these real-time constructions reaffirm the project as an open, reflexive and practice driven format.
Some of the many questions we would like to explore during these four days include: How might we learn about the contemporary urban condition and the relation of the subject within it? What educational formats are needed to develop future imaginaries of what it might mean to become an urban practitioner? And how should the agency of such practice be understood?
Who's Coming
