About the Event
From Estrel to High Deck – The Little-Known Stretch of Sonnenallee
In this city walk we explore urban transformation processes and discover both visionary and controversial developments along the lesser-known stretch of Sonnenallee in Neukölln. Slowly moving away from the city center, we meander through heterogeneous urban conditions of an inner-city periphery: a controversial highway construction, the largest hotel in the country, leafy allotment gardens, historical park landscapes, and stigmatized housing estates like the White Estate and “the city above the city” housing model of Highdeck Estate. These inner-city peripheries are manifested testimonies of grand utopian visions, social segregation, infrastructural development, modernist ideals, and spaces of migration.
